IPAQ, Explorer & Proxy Server

Hi

I connect my IPAQ to my PC via a standard connection cable and synchronise.

I haven't modem, network card nor bluetooth on the IPAQ.

My PC connects to the Internet via a proxy server, with a password.

Is it possible to connect the IPAQ to the internet over the PC link ?

thanks

Yes, it is possible.

You need to go to the control panel and find the connections icon. When you open the connections panel you should see two tabs at the bottom of the screen: 1) Tasks, 2) Advanced. Tap on Advanced.

You should now see 3 buttons, tap on the one that says "Select Networks".

Now you should see two drop down boxes. I have both of mine set to "My Work network". I have it set to this because my work uses a proxy and my home does not. Set both drop downs to "My Work Network". Then just below the first drop down tap on the "edit" button.

You will now see 3 tabs at the bottom: 1) General, 2) Modem, 3) Proxy Settings. Tap Proxy Settings.

Make sure the first check-box is checked (This network connects to the internet). The second box should be checked if you are using a proxy. In the proxy server field put in the name of your proxy. Finally, tap on the Advanced button.

In the first box labeled "HTTP" you should see your proxy name. Modify the port number to the number used by your proxy. That's it. Hit OK all the way out and you should be able to use IE or anything else that needs a connection behind your proxy.

When you go back home, just uncheck the checkbox that says "This network use a proxy server...". You will have to re-enter the proxy each time you uncheck it. I have a shortcut set up to quickly enter my proxy name.

I think I covered most of what you need. If I am missing something, I am sure that someone will come "to the rescue".

HTH!
