Alienhead - welcome to the site

Can you please expand on what is happening to your inbox, as it sound fairly extreme

When you sync does PO delete the whole inbox? delete the messages? basically what actually happens.

If it deletes messages from your inbox - are these new messages or messages that you have previously syn'd and used on your iPaq?

I think we need some more information before we can help.

When I delete a message in PO, then when I sync up it will delete the message from my Outlook inbox. It's irriating and I didn't know if this is normal or if there is a way to turn that off.

That is what I would expect to happen - the machines are syncronising - so anything you do on one will be replicated on the other - you could untick the option to "syncronise inbox" within Activesync - but then your PPC won't copy messages received on your desktop - and you may not want that to happen either because you want to take them with you.

My work around is that any e-mails that I don't want on my PPC - but want to keep on my PC - I start up my desktop Outlook and I move them to a created folder called A_Inbox on my desktop machine - and then I connect my PPC to sync.

Hope this helps.
Regards

Rob

I solve the problem by never deleting an email on my PPC. I have an archive folder (several actually, for different things) in Outlook on my desktop that I put in emails that I want to keep.

alienhead, That is really the whole point of synchronization. Activesync is unlike Palm's Hotsync where you can control the syncing process by selecting if the PC overwrites the PDA, viceversa or do nothing. Activesync will replicate any changes that you make on your PPC to the PC. So if you delete a message on the PPC it will get deleted on the PC.

Thanks for the replies. If there was one thing that I liked about Palm's is that you can control the sync'ing. I hope this will change in the future active sync. I like having the control.

Palm's Hotsync definately has some things that is better than Activesync so I agree with you there. Let's hope Microsoft will improve AS. When WM2005 is released it is supposed to be used with a newer version of AS that Microsoft will make available.

I have heard that Intellisync makes a product for syncing PPCs. Does it give more control?

I can't help with your problem, because I have the same. Rob, what happens is that when you pop the Ipac on to its cradle to HotSync and charge the battery, all the new items in your Outlook Inbox appear in the Ipaq's Inbox. If you then remove the Ipac from the cradle and delete the emails on the Ipaq and then put the Ipac back on to the cradle, the same emails get moved from the PC's Inbox to the Delete file. So he finds them deleted.

Jim - welcome to the site

What you have described above is what I would expect to happen.

What I do is I have created another folder called "A_Inbox" (on my PC) and move the e-mails into it - that way they do not get sync'd across to the PPC when you put it in the cradle as they are no longer in the inbox that is syncronised.
Regards

Rob
