I'm reading the topics here and I still can't figure out if I should order the upgrade CD just yet or wait till all the issues are clearly resolved. Anyone got a CD recently can say for sure if A05 or later ROM is shipping now?
I've got A03 on 2002 running right now, have had my Axim since Jan. Need to get a button cell, duh, I let the battery drain out once. ![]()

um, i was told that all the bugs were fixed? as in the people getting the upgrade cd now were having little to no problems and running and a much increased speed (able to run near full speed full sound snes emulation, everything else is just generally faster).
is it really still screwed up? oh well, ill find out tuesday when i try it.

It's not so much the Dell specific bugs that you should be worried about, those are fixed (to my knowledge). There are also some bugs with the OS itself that all WM2003 users need to deal with. For example the db_notify database bug, the buggy alarms, or the inconsistent sound some users are reporting.
These are actually typical for a new OS release, and in the next few months I'm sure Microsoft will release a new service pack, and shortly afterwards Dell will release a new ROM image based on it. For most people A05 seems to be good enough, but if you want rock solid reliability on par with 2002 then perhaps it would be best to wait till A06 or A07 (it seems the odd numbered versions are the good ones from Dell ) comes out.BTW, I personally ordered the WM2003 upgrade back in June, but right now I'm thinking that unless I see some really positive reports coming from WM2003 users during the next few weeks, I may hold off a bit before I install it.

I've upgraded from A03 to WM2003 (A05) with no problems - only my WiFi card doesn't work (yet) but I didn't use that much...
I have TextMaker installed to the built-in storage before and after the upgrade and it's miles faster after. Resco Picture Viewer generates thumbnails faster, PIE connects and appears to be more compatable. Works fine for this Brit

WM2003 is a mixed bag... virtually all of the problems with A04 are fixed, except the crackling audio. The remainder of the problems are generic to 2003... PocketMIDI: broken, Pocketop wireless keyboard driver: broken, NYDITOT: broken....and quite a few more.

Well the idea is that eventually there will be bigger and better software to use out there based on WM2003; but for now, yes you have a point, the benefits of upgrading at the moment are marginal.
The same could have been said about PPC 2002 when it came out.

Here's why I am interested in the upgrade...
PIE - which is the absolute worse piece of crap in its 2002 incarnation. I think my wireless card isn't supported yet? D-Link 660. Bluetooth card probably is? - Socket Bluetooth card. I could do without the wireless card for now, but the Bluetooth card is a must work for me.

"so why upgrade when it would mean not being able to use most of the software you were using before. i think that defeats the purpose"
Most? i hardly think whats not working qualifies as most. More like a small fraction. Many of which didnt work have been fixed anyway. Personally i want to upgrade for the speed boost in snes emulation to a playable level though. And mb in some of my other games that are a bit rough (baseball addict mainly).
