HERE IT IS! THE A04 to A05 Update File - No kidding!
This thread has been pulled offline temporarily. We need to verify with Dell that this download is okay to distribute. Aximsite needs and wants to keep in good terms with the Dell Corporation, so we need to be sure that we do not use "loop holes" that Dell may have overlooked to gain access to this file.
Hang in there, and if Dell says it is okay....the thread will be moved back to the forum.

O.K.
I posted the the link to the WM2003 A04 to A05 update file on the DELL Community Forums. Surely you can't have a problem if Dell doesn't. Dell Forum message link: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...essage.id=5415 ST

A02
How come when I download this file and doubleclick to start it is states that R64365.exe is Version A02 and NOT A05?
The date and file size appears to be correct but shouldn't the version in system utilies be A05?

The A02 that your referring to is the Updater version, NOT the ROM version.

Just like the post said, it works for most, but not for all A04 to A05 WM2003 updates. This is the SAME file that many users have been wanting since Dell pulled it from the US site. It is the SAME file that has also WORKED for many, many users. If you look at the poll of successes and failures, you'll see that it's probably a 60-75% chance of SUCCESS. Of course, if it doesn't work for you, you can tell others to forget it, or let them try - the odds are in their favor. This file has the same updater that had the 1/13 hang for some, but it is for others who didn't get a chance to get it to work. BTW, mine has never updated and never will until the updater is fixed. Just trying to help - there's nothing in it for me. ST

THANK YOU!!!
All I can say is THANKS!!! The upgrade worked like a charm and I am running benchmarks now. Does appear to be faster is most things but startup menu is still a tad slow but I can live with it. The sound in media player actually sounds worse although with earphones it still sounds great.
Thanks again! C | |||

Are the failed updates related to any particular A04 version. I mean the 10 digit number to the right of the ROM Version number from the "system Information" screen. My Advanced came with 2003 and A04 (06140301EN) and was purchased 3 weeks ago.. I'm just interested in why it works for some but not others..

There have numerous polls and threads here to try to discover a correlation to OS, PC, ROM version, ship dates, usb types, etc. To my knowledge, none have clearly shown a relationship to the the problem. The most promising sequence for updates that previously failed seemed to be the removal of the batteries for a period of time. Quite a few "failures" became update "successes" with that method (but not for mine). Other methods also proved successful (but not for mine). I suggest you search/read some of these posts if you want to spend the time to give it a thorough chance. Otherwise, you can wait for an indeterminate amount of time for Dell to fix the update, as I have to do. ST

Thanks. I'm going to give it a try.
Dell should make the fixed patch available online. If I can login to Dell support and register my Ax and see the updates that are available, why can't Dell just make the patch available to those that are entitled to it?
