2003 upgrade - any nationalisation issues?

I'd like to upgrade my iPaq 3870 from 2002 to 2003 ( to support an application that is no longer being developed for 2002 ).

My question is, is there any difference between a US sourced 2003 upgrade from HP and a UK sourced one? And the reason for this is that HP UK want about 3 times the money than HP.com do ( £53 ( approx $99 ) against $30 ).

I have a friend visiting the UK from CA next month so delivery isn't going to be a problem.

Thanks.

Hello pkr. Welcome to the site. At the very least I would think it would likely change the country code to USA. We both use "english" , so I wouldn't think that would be a problem, but I don't know if there are any hardware specific differences between the US/UK models. If there aren't, then in theory you should be able to use the US upgrade. Have you asked HP-UK what the difference is?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I doubt if there are any h/w changes, it's more the regionalisation - things, like the £ symbol, week begins Sunday, date format ( dd/mm/yy ), dictionary ( e.g. colour )....

I've not asked HP but I think I'll try. They're not keen on selling from HP.com to the UK so I'm not sure they would too helpful if they asked why!

I agree they probably will never endorse it, but maybe they can tell you if there is a drop dead in your tracks reason for not doing it. Good luck, post back and let us know. There may be others who are interested in doing the same thing.
