Okay... here it is. This is a patch that has been known to fix the alarm issue. It's does not work for everyone, which is the reason we are now giving it out. We have had a very good ratio of cases where this has fixed the alarm issue but we had a few cases where it wouldn't solve the issue. We suspected hardware issues in those cases where it hasn't worked, but we have given up trying to fix Microsoft's problem. I really hope you all can get some use out of this as we spent many hours on it!

Please make a backup before using, especially for level 3 of the fix.

Here is the link: http://www.atechware.com/fixalarm.htm

If this works for you and you feel like contributing a little back to us, just let me know. :D

Guess what? Hard reset didn't fix it for me...that means it's something in the ROM...it's either a Dell or Microsoft issue, and neither is likely to accept the responsibility.

If a hard reset doesn't fix your alarms then your Axim should be sent back to Dell. In all of our testing, we ran across several units that would not work no matter what we did. We had one of the units replaced and the problem was solved. Whether it was "hardware" or "software", we could never tell but they acted just like yours. After a hard reset they still wouldn't work, but after they were replaced... they magically worked :-).

I've already emailed Dell Tech Support...we'll see what they say.

While I have an old Axim, the problems are related to the Dell WM 2003 upgrade, so perhaps they'll honor this as a software issue / warrantee...

What startup sound? I'm confused? I always wanted an app that allowed a sound or something to be played each time you turn on your ppc.

When you push the soft reset button (running 2002) it used to always play the "alarm2" wav sound in the ppc windows folder, now (running 2003) it dosent.

ive gone back to 2002 to test it and it stll works there, then flashed 2003 again and no soft reset startup sound.

Ok, here's where I'm at currently:

Dell tech support said:

a) Be sure it's ActiveSync 3.7 (it was)
b) Be sure the proper alarms were turned on (apparently they're off by default)

--Settings
----Sounds & Notifications
------Notifications
--------Select how to be notified
----------Play Sound

(This was also set)

After verifying all this, Dell Tech support decided to send me a new (well refurbished) unit.

Received the unit today...loaded it up, and --- still no sound on Begin Sync...

So, this really has me (and likely Dell) stumped. I'm trying to see if they'll admit it's a bug, and to see if they'll have a patch coming out soon.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Oh--as an aside they sent me a PXA255 (as opposed to my original PXA250). I was hoping this was a cause/contributor to the problem, but it doesn't look like it.

I have been having problems that started just Monday. The Sync sound works sometimes. And sometimes it doesn’t no big deal as it was an irritating noise anyhow, but I have to wonder what else is on again off again in WM2003?

I'm having the same problem: nothing happens when I should get notified with an alarm and pop up message with my appointment. I never had that problem with PPC2002, now I did the upgrade to WM2003 and there it is: the nasty sound problem.
I did a few hard resets... still the same.
I removed partnerships.. still the same.

I used the the alarmfix posted above: didn't help. (not using atalarm)
I only sync with one PC.

how did you get rid of it?

TIA

edit: just saw that my sync sounds are not working all the time neither... (they are checked though in the notification options)

Reminders stop working

Hi to all!!

I had the same problem with ppc 2002.
Suddenly my reminder stopped to work, i could see them on the Today's calendar but no sound or message at all were popped up.

The solution it's very simple, the bug is caused by Microsoft !!

Go to Settings -> Clock. Change the time and save it.
Change it again and save it again.

And the reminders are ok and working well again !!!!

The problem ( in my case ) was caused because of 2 partnerships.

Just do a backup of data in Axim ( in cf card, or mmc ), delete all partnerships (
\windows\application data\microsoft\activeSync\profiles\ )

Then run off the Axim, run on again on the crawdle/cable, and create a new and unique partnership.

Restore the backup from cf card or mmc.

All working ok again.

Well I am impressed. This is the second Axim (first returned) that for the first time had the reminder work! I downloaded OHAYDEN's patch, and for the first time ever heard the reminder notification (x3 2003) !
I will check back and post if it does (or deosn't) keep working!
thanks!
