5450 upgrade to 2003

I have just obtained the upgrade cd from HP.

I followed the instructions and currently have the grey update screen with the blue HP logo and a darker grey box below.

Am I supposed to see a progress bar on the screen?

I know that the upgrade will take some time as I am connected via the serial port - USB connections always seem to disconnect and I get a reliable connection via serial - I am hoping that the upgrade will help. How long should the upgrade take via a serial port.

Also Activesync seems to have closed itself - is this right?

Many thanks for any help.

Peter S,

Welcome to this superb website and forum.

The recommended time for upgrading is:
USB 20 minutes; Serial 60 minutes.

You will see a progress bar on the PC.

If after one hour, it is still in the same status, you might have failed in upgrading. Then you will have to follow some special procedure to restore it.

I hope you good luck.

After about 90 mins of nothing happening I undocked the Ipaq and before doing anything else did a soft reset and it started up OK. I then started the installation again and it all went straight forwardly. As you said the upgrade took about 60 mins and I could see the progress bar moving on the PC and the Ipaq.
