HP rx3715 and the Internet

Hello,
I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question as this is my first go at forums, so excuse my ignorance.
I’m just finding my way around this iPAQ of mine and not being too clever where computers are concerned would like some help.
I am using it wirelessly through a Belkin ADSL Modem Wireless G Router and my XP Pro desktop PC.
I can surf the net alright but I cannot access some parts of certain sites that require me to log into them.
An example being Lycos mail, I get to the log in page but when I put in my details and tap Go I loose the page and I’m back to the Windows Start screen.
Any ideas why this should be happening?
Thanks,
Terry.

A strange one, this!

Some (random) questions off the top of my head:

(Excusing me asking the obvious, but it has to be done...) Are you entering the correct password/login details?

Does this happen at every site that you need to log in to or just some of them?

Can you connect to the 'bad' sites if you use a PC?

Do these 'bad' sites require java to be enabled? Or ActiveX? Or some other such nonsense?

If you could answer these questions (and any others than spring into your head as you're doing this) then we can start to (hopefully) narrow down the exact problem & then sort out how to fix it.

Hello sugar_cube,
Thank you for your reply.
I do use the correct login details and the site works OK on my desktop PC.
Another site I use I can log in and am allowed access with no problems.

I wanted to use the AA Route Planner which requires no log in or passwords,
and this site does not work on my iPAQ but works alright on the desktop PC.
I input the details of my route and i am asked for confirmation of the details but it will not progress from there.

Regarding the question about Java and Active X, you've lost me on that one!

I hope this information helps.
Thanks,
Terry.

I am sending this quick message using my iPAQ to confirm it will work on some sites OK.

Hmmm, I'm puzzled on this one - I've tried the AA Planner site & I can go in to that one OK, so at the moment I'm stuck for new ideas.

Anyone else able to offer ideas/help? (I think I need to sleep on this one & try again tomorrow ...)

Terry

Can you clear the caches and temp Internet folders on your device and try again - I wonder if your machine is trying to access the page from there rather than direct.
Regards

Rob

Hello rob1303,
With Internet Explorer open by selecting Tools then Options there is three tabs, by tapping Memory I am given two boxes, Clear History and Delete Files, when I tap these nothing seems to happen.
The Security tab has a box to Clear Cookies when I tapped on this I got “Delete web content that has been previously viewed or synchronised with the device”.
Is this what you mean by the cache and temp Internet folders?.
I still can't make any progress into these two sites.
Thanks,
Terry.

Yes

Also for a more automated and thorough clean have a look at the 'cleaner' software I have linked in my MyPDA (on the left).

Cleaner+ is a good (free) internet cleaner.

Hello rob1303,
I've installed the cleaner you recommended, it deleted 64 files and freed up 227.54KBytes.
BUT I still can't get into the sites, I tried the RAC route finder to see if that would work but that also will not progress onto giving the route information.
I guess these sites are not suitable for using on my iPAQ.
Never mind.
Thanks,
Terry.

How much free memory do you have on your device (not on sd/cf card or in ROM)?

This is your problem.

You only have 5.8mb free of program memory - that means this is what is available for you to run programmes in.

I recommend that you uninstall as many programmes as possible and reinstall them to either the Filestore or SD card.

My MyPDA shows where I have installed my programmes.
Regards

Rob

Hello rob1303,
I only have 3 programs that show up under Remove Programs they are:
Inetinfosoftsys Cleaner +, Microsoft Reader, HP Image Transfer.
If you feel these should be moved can you give me detailed instructions on how to do it.
Thanks,
Terry.
