I called Dell Monday morning at 8AM CST and asked for a replacement and since my slow A04 version was purchased less than 30 days ago and the patch didn't work for me Dell sent me a replacement with 2003 and A05 :D They even sent it overnight priority delivery! Wow!
This one is noticably faster - no benchmarks required to see the difference.
I see a lot of complaining in this Forum so I though I'd post some good news.
Ive got great news!!!! Dell has DELAYED my shippment of my LEGAL copy of mm2003. I AM SO HAPPY!!! REALLY, I AM!!!!
DELL THANK YOU SO MUCH. PLEASE DELAY ALL OF MY ORDERS IN THE FUTURE, I ENJOY MYSELF EVERYTIME IT HAPPENS. I LOVE TO PAY FOR STUFF AND THEN HAVE HACK MY WAY INTO WHAT I'VE PAID FOR ALREADY........................................... .
Ya know you guys really need to listen to yourselfs. No matter what dell does you still wont be happy. If they send you a piece of software they are working the bugs out of you complain its too slow. So they hold back production to fix it and you complain you want the disk. Let me ask you this. Does your ax work right now? There is not much of a difference betwen 2003 and 2002 other then a few new addins. Relax once dell has everything worked out we will get the disk

Wildcat - let's put this in perspective. WM2003 was released June 23. Dell was one of the first out the door with an update and to switch to WM2003 in all shipping Axims within the US. Point to Dell. Within two weeks, it became clear that there was a significant problem with Dell's version of WM2003, which Dell denied until several people here made such a stink about it, and got it spread to other newssources including ZDNet, that Dell really couldn't ignore or hide it anymore. Then Dell releases a fix late in July 2003, but 'because some people figured out how to use it to upgrade 2002 units' it was pulled. (I put that in quotes because clearly, there were still some problems with the updater - we're seeing a lot of people who are using the update legitimately experiencing strange lockups and even unit failures caused by the update...)
So now everyone has to wait until mid to late Aug 2003 to get the update - almost two months later. Well - not everyone. Apparently, people in Europe are getting their updates now, so it would seem the CDs are ready, but for some reason Dell isn't shipping in Canada or the US...
Worse, Dell has put no information as to status or availability on their US or Canadian websites, leaving their customers uncertain as to what's up. When you call their tech support or sales support, you get wildly conflicting information that changes weekly.
Now, to me, that sound like a perfectly reasonable cause for irritation and frustration. It's a cause which could be fixed by Dell in a second by simply putting a link on their website on the front page, or on the Axim page, pointing to information on the status and ETA of the update. Very simple.
Most of us just want one thing: an update that won't wreck our Axim that ships before WM2004 is released.
It that really such an unreasonable demand?
I don't think so.
Oh, and there is at least ONE important difference between 2003 and 2002 - it's 2 to 2.5x faster. That's hardly chickenfeed. It also includes WMV9 codecs which provides much better playback and smaller files.
I agree on one thing Jeff stated, mainly the
Status, or Progress. It should definately be made available,
to the public, a webpage that states where they stand,
what they are working on and the ETA, that does not seem
like too much to ask for.. But they are leaving us in the dark,
if people knew when to expect the update, maybe they wouldnt
flock to ipaq.
But as wildcat has stated, its just not worth the risk..
