I agree with Jerry, A lot of us would be Palm Users if not for the price cut Dell put. The only thing I can say is, YES - Dell messed up. They are new to this arena and are scrambling to make things right. I am sure if HP was newer to the PPC arena, they would likely make a mistake also. For the price I paid, it is worth the wait for the software to be 100%. It operates, just sluggish without the 100% bug free release.
I am not saying that Dell is perfect, but it is not a good reason to put their head on a platter. They are not refusing support. (although the ousourcing of the tech support is close to refusal, as I can not understand their dialect.)

Nope, I'm not upset with Dell. At the end of my 30 day satisfaction window, I was not satisified with my non-functioning Axim, so I returned it for a refund. What I find interesting, is that it is much easier to get a refund from Dell than it was to order and get support for their product.
So Dell get's a big "thumbs up" for their refund process!
"it is much easier to get a refund from Dell than it was to order and get support for their product"
That's not good. . .what did you do? Buy another Dell, sit on the fence or buy from another company?
I bought my Axim just about exactly a month ago now - they are using 7/12 as the ship date and the date for warranty expiration. Did I likely miss my window? I mean, I don't mind waiting another couple of weeks but I don't want to be stuck with this thing as is for $300 indefinitely and be told that I missed my 30 day return window while waiting for a patch so screw me.
I've never done business with Dell before now - they're not that bad are they?
sleeby, my Axim purchase was my first (and the last for the foreseeable future). I had heard that Dell played games with the 30 day timer, so I gave myself about 4 days buffer just in case I got lost in the maze of Dell customer support.
Aug 8th was the end of the 30 days for me, and I too was afraid of being left high-and-dry for an indefinite amount of time.
I've bought plenty of electronics online... including a 34" HDTV direct-view flatscreen TV, and I can honestly say that Dell has the most archaic ordering system around.
First, you place an order with Dell, and then it takes 24-48 hours for them to "confirm" that the order is "valid". (I guess they don't place much faith in their online ordering system) Then, it takes another 5-7 days while it goes through the "manufacturing process". Then after that, another 5 days to get it shipped.
Dell's Customer Care service isn't any better... sending emails to them via their website were repeatedly bounced back. Contacting them on phone was a hassle... their phone menu system doesn't even have a choice for the Axim... I had to get forwarded to them by another group. I called 6 times in an attempt to get the A04 problem resolved, and each time I tried using different options...but none were direct.
Yes, IMO, Dell is that bad....
...which is a shame, because the Axim (especially running 2002) is an extremely nice device. That is why I bought one in the first place.
I ended up getting an HP2215. But I would've been just as happy with the Axim Advanced running 2002.
I do not agree with the so called 95% rule... Definitely the words of a programmer... The bottom line: I do not spend money on a product crossing my fingers that it works correctly. !
thats funny.... You buy a new car, you want it to work? I dont care if dell is new to the pda game or not... If I spend my money on one of there products, I expect it to work.
Just to keep fanning the flames. You star50fiveoh seem to be instigating the situation. You know people are upset about this issue and you know people are unhappy with Dell's handling of the situation yet you come and post how everyone here is "bashers and hyper-tensioned, hot-under-the-collar, Type A type folks"
What did you think would happen?
Its like telling victims of Ford Explorer rollover, we all make mistakes. Why go and complain or even sue Ford? We know they are going to do the right thing.
I purchased my Dell Axim in Dec 02. The price was great, delivery was on time & it's worked fine. I've ordered the update, but its not that big of a deal as to when I get it. There is no requirement for Dell to rush it to me! The Axim still works as I bought it.
PS: I also have a Scandisk 256 SD that has given me no trouble.
I have also purchased ~ 20 Dell PCs with excellent use and service when required, over the last 10 years.:)

welcome to the club... a month ago I filled a complaint, told it was going to be passed to manameng using a pathetic preformated email... still no word from them....
Originally posted by dmascot If it is true that some of our European friends have gotten the upgrade CD with the fixed patch, then I am upset with Dell.
Seems to me Dell should be more concerned with fixing the new Axim's that were sold with the faulty OS. Before sending out upgrades to people with perfectly running Axim's.
Am I expecting too much?
For those with A04 rom that had problems with the 1/13 problem please email me
I will test this out tomorrow, and let you know...
