Talk to MS about charging for the OS not Dell. Why should Dell eat the $30?

You might want to research how much Dell pays for the licensing, because it is not $30.

Boy has Dell really screwed this one up... I would just put the freaking update out there and not piss off so many customers. The few people that would actually try and edit the ROM image is probably fewer than the customers they are potential loosing from boggling this thing so badly.
Not that I don't like Dell... I have a desktop and think that the Axim is great, but their service lately in regards to this matter has been horrendous.

Its a 30-day law thing. If a product has not been delivered after 30-days (date of order) and the customer has NOT been notified and approved a 'wait' over the 30-day mark, the customer has legal remedies. Amazon does that as well for items that have been sold out/discontinued etc... I will see if I can find it later and see if it may be offered for free :) But then again, even if it is free, seems that it may never come.

So whats the delay? Put the file on a CD and ship it to the customers they want to get it... What are they trying to do put some super encryption on it, the file is already out there for those who want it bad enough. I've seen it... or are they just stalling?

Of course not. We have been thought this many time before. Do a search and you'll learn the true answer. My Axim didn't cost Dell $350 either. Whats the point? No PPC maker is giving away WM 2003 and Dell is selling it for the cheapest (If it ever comes out). HP and Toshiba charge more.

Just a side note... I thought Toshiba was charging like $15 or $16 for the Wm2003 upgrade for the e755?

Two quick points
One. At the moment - we're in exactly the same situation as the e740 owners with one difference: they KNOW they aren't getting an upgrade, we still have hope. Worse, the A/P people ARE (or maybe were.. it's hard to say) in the exact same position since they were told they would never get the upgrade.
Tangibly though, these two situations are essentially identical until Dell ships something. Well, almost - our situation will be worse if Dell decides not to ship at all because we had hope it would ship. The e740 owners have already passed through that phase into the 'let's bomb them' phase. :)
Two. Dell is not the cheapest upgrade. Most companies are charging around US$30 for it or less. I'm sure there are a few charging more, but Dell's price isn't neither a bargain nor a ripoff. And as I noted elsewhere, most of us have no problems paying the $30 if Dell would just ship the dang product already.

I got the same letter, postponed until October 1st. While I think that Dell has a major marketing problem at this point, my Axim with PC2002 works well so I can not complain. It will be interesting though to see if Dell does come up with an upgrade. If they don't then they might face some possible issues etc. I would rather have a working OS as opposed to one with bugs etc. Sometimes waiting is the best option.

I don't think those 22 bytes of magically delicious taste were ever mentioned.
But enough about that...

Oops , order gets canceled and I guess I'd get moved tp the back of the line.

i think they had a recall on the upgrades because of the problems they found in it. but i am tired of waiting, but its better waiting and getting a fized version then getting an all screwed up one
