Pocket Word pasting spaces instead of text

Hi,

I have an ipaq 1915, with Windows CE 3.0. Recently it seems that whenever I copy text in Pocket Word, when I try and paste what I've copied, only spaces seem to get inserted. Anyone else noticed this?

Thanks for your consideration.

Are you copying text that is in a table, and trying to paste that text into another table? If so, it will just paste "spaces" (nothing at all).

No, it's just plain old text (as far as I can see). It seems to paste a number spaces equal to the number of characters I've copied. The file has been edited both on my ipaq directly, and in MS Word on the PC that it's ActiveSync'd to, so it's been converted between .pwd and .doc formats a few times.

Actually, it seems that this phenomenon occurs whenever a document has been converted from .pwd to .doc by ActiveSynch, edited on the PC, and then converted back to .pwd. Is this a "known" feature?

I've found out what the problem was. I had a custom symbol font installed on the desktop PC which usually hosts my PDA. I guess I must have synched a Word document which used that font somewhere, and the font got silently installed on the PDA. For reasons which I don't understand, Pocket Word decided that any piece of text that is pasted will be pasted in that font. Sadly, the PDA did not seem to be able to display the font, so all I saw were spaces. Selecting a chunk of text including the "invisible" pasted text and setting the font to e.g. Tahoma had no effect. However, if I selected all the text in the document, and formatted it with a completely new font (Courier New), then the "invisible" pasted text became visible once again.
Wow - it must have taken some effort to put that feature in!
I deleted the custom font file from the PDA, and reformatted the Pocket Word document in Tahoma. Now I see all my text, including the previously invisible pasted bits, and I can copy and paste as before.

Incidently, if I format the entire document in Courier, pasted text still appears in Tahoma, even if it was Courier when originally copied.

Oh well. You live and learn!
