please help usb problems after installing active sync
OK guys please bear with me on this one !
I am getting problems installing USB devices after i have installed active sync 3.7 i have reinstalled windows xp 3 times now and i think i can narrow the problem down to active sync. What happens is when i try to install a USB device xp finds the device (and says what it is) but will not load the drivers for this device even if the driver has been loaded before the device has been plugged in. This also happens when i try to use my portable USB hard drive that does not need drivers for xp it usually just loads up and works but in my case it brings up the found new hardware wizard and then says (CANNOT INSALL THIS DEVICE) Now I know the drivers are there for the devices because they can be seen in system32/drivers but xp will not accept them. Please note this only happens after active sync has been installed. It does not matter what device I try to install slot card readers or printers scanners it will not find the drivers? If I uninstall active sync it does not make any difference and I cant re install the Axim it wont recognise it !!! no matter which USB port I put it in even the one it was in. All the devices that were installed prior to the active sync still work fine so long as you don’t plug them into another USB port if they are used in another port it gives the same problem but plug it back into its original one and its ok??? hope someone can help im getting tired of installing xp now Best regards biggen | ||||

just a note... are you sure you have the correct USB hardware on your PC to the one in the devices? 1.1? 2? do you have XP SP 1 that supports USB 2? i ask cause you did not said how updated your computer is... by saying you formated it 3 times I guess that it wasnt, or was it?

First, download this to your desktop and extract it manually by right clicking and going Extract to R55367 (this assumes you have WinZip Installed) USB Cradle Driver
Second with AS 3.7 installed put your Axim in the cradle and let XP detect the device. Right click on My Computer-Go to Properties-Select the hardware tab, click on the device manager button....scroll down to the bottom and you should see Windows CE USB Device or a device with a question mark....double click on this to expand it and then select the expanded value and go into the properties. The second tab over on Dell Axim USB Sync should say Driver..Go to this tab and click on the Update Driver button, select the option to Install from a list or specific location and click next. On the next window select the option to "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" and click next...click the Have Disk button...click the Browse button and then browse to your desktop (or where ever you saved the extracted R55367) and in the folder R55367 it should be looking for a file named wceusbsh.inf ...select this file and click open and then click OK..click the next button and then click OK. ..you should see it installing the driver.....click finish and then close to return to device manager. After this completes AS 3.7 is likely to start up ...if it doesn't then remove the AX from the cradle, soft reset it for good measure and try putting it back in the cradle...if all went well then AS 3.7 should start right up and present you with the partnership option. I'd also check the Gigabyte site for the latest motherboard/USB controller drivers, and check your motherboards BIOS setup to insure that the USB ports are indeed turned on and functioning properly...most times the defaults work correctly with regards to onboard onboard devices like USB controllers in BIOS. Another option in XP is to select the "Don't tell me about USB errors check box" .... this is usually just used to trouble shoot USB controller errors. Check out this link ..I would suggest installing the VIA 4 in 1 driver bundle as it includes an updated USB filter driver ..there is also a link to a Microsoft Site with regards to XP and USB 2.0 at the bottom.
