Problems installing cab file
I am running PocketPC 2003 on an ipaq4155. I have previously installed a cab file with no issues. Today I was trying to see if they had updated the cab file so I uninstalled the software and then downloaded and copied over the (presumably) new cab file. Upon trying to install it, I received the error: Setup Failed: The file <> is not a valid Windows CE Setup file.
I thought there may be issues with this (presumably newer) version of the cab file so I removed it and replaced it with the original copy I had installed from some time ago, but it now also receives the same error. I tried to install other cab files for different applications to make sure it wasn't a problem with my wceload.exe or something, and those installed fine. I installed Total Commander, and removed any entries I could find from my registry relating to this software, but still the same problem occurs. Help! BTW, the cab file I was trying to install is RTD_PPC.ARM.CAB for RTD Handheld Schedule Viewer available at http://www.secondkiss.com/rtd/downlo...ows_mobile.asp Does anyone have any idea why I would not be able to install this cab file anymore?

I would be tempted to download & install CabInstaller (it's free), & then use that program to load your cab files (the added advantage of using it is that you can specify whereabouts you want the program to be installed, as opposed to the program deciding for you).
Try CabInstaller & see if that resolves your problem, then report back here & tell us how you got on. (If you need help running CabInstaller then just give us a shout )

That's why I offered to help if you got stuck.OK, I have tried to install the program & I get the same error message as you, so it must be a problem with the file itself, which means contacting the company & passing the problem onto them. Let us know the outcome...

This is where I'm totally thrown. That was my first feeling, that the "new" cab had problems, so I attempted to reinstall the cab that I'd previously used successfully.
Before I install anything on my PDA I keep a copy in a downloads folder on my laptop in case I ever have to reinstall anything, like now. I have a copy of the last 2 cab versions I used successfully which coincidentally appear to be the same file each time. You'll notice the date on the cab file is 5/4/2005 which is the same date/size of the version I've downloaded and installed the last 2-3 times over the past 1.5 yrs. I talked to someone else that tried to use this software, but I believe they have an older version of PocketPC, so they attempted to use the older file noted on the web page. They also got the same error as me though. I used this cab successfully for 1.5 yrs. I know it wasn't a dream. So why, when I click my heels three times, doesn't the cab work for me this time??? BTW, thanks so much for your help! P.S. In my research, I did come across a KA from MSN regarding this error. Essentially if there are too many lines (?) in the cab file, it will cause this problem, so the solution is to break it out into multiple cabs, or something like that. Since I used it successfully before, I assumed this issue didn't have anything to do with the problems I was having.

If things were simple we wouldn't have IT gurus being paid $$$
I really don't know what else to think about this - have you updated the ROM between the first (successful) install & now? I still think this is one that should be addressed to the company - I can't believe that you're the only one to suffer this way, & if you've bought the product you're entitled to support fom them. It may be that they have a solution (or at least a reason for the problem).
