Is 2003 free?

Is PocketPC 2003 free and we are paying the shipping and handling from Dell, or is not?

If you are upgrading from PPC2002 to WM2003 you must pay for the upgrade CD from Dell (about $30 USD I believe). It is illegal to get this upgrade any other way for free. If you are getting a new Axim, 2003 should already come preinstalled, unless it's refurbished.

Then your patch would be free.

Check out this thread for further clarification of the different ROMs.

Also, it should be free if you purchased your PPC2002 Axim within 30 days of the release (by Microsoft, not Dell) of WM2003. I believe this date was June 23, so if you purchased your Axim after approximately May 23 you should be able to get a free upgrade CD to WM2003. You can search around here for "free upgrade cd" or something to get the exact dates if you wish.

Unless you don't happen to live in the USA . Dell don't think that it should provide the same service irrespective of your location in this new small world.

I'm in the UK and ordered mine on the 6 June. Will I be able to get an upgrade free? I've tried reading through all the forums but get conflicting information.

Best thing to do is just call Dell and ask. Like has been mentioned, their non-U.S. divisions handle things differently sometimes.

No. Dell UK don't seem to be offering free upgrades even to those who bought after 23rd June. Before that and you don't even have no chance at all.

To clarify the situation, you will not get a free upgrade, irrespective of when you bought your machine in the UK. Also, Dell's UK website states that freight will be deducted on processing. Make sure they do this, I had to send three emails and threaten legal action to "remind" them of this. It was then recredited to my account.

Currently Dell Axim X50V. Back after 2 years away.
Not enough room for what I've been through in the past 12 months!
