WM 2003 Upgrades shipping on the 17th

According to this article

http://news.com.com/2100-1041_3-5071822.html?tag=fd_top

posted today on News.com the WM 2003 upgrade for the Dell Axim will begin shipping on the 17th of September. For those people still stuck with an Axim using ROM A04 the patch CDs started shipping on Thursday. I'm hoping they get it right this time

I find it interesting that no one has responded to this post so far. If someone was to post something this definitive back in August there would probably be 20 replies to it so far. This probably means one of two things.

a) People no longer believe anything that is said regarding this issue and are taking a watch and wait approach.

b) Most of the people who were vocally frustrated with Dell, the Axim and this wait have given up or have gone with alternative solutions (aka the iPaq).

Either that or it's just Friday night and everyones out :D

BTW, this article mentions that those awaiting the patch started having their CDs sent out yesterday. That means that the patch CDs should start showing up sometime early next week. I am going to assume that the patch CDs and the upgrade CDs will essentially be the same, so those of us expecting upgrades should start getting some feedback on whether Dell finally figured everything out very soon.

Probably a little bit of both (a) and (b)... not to mention that it is Dell's responsibility to inform affected customers directly.

Dell has a bad habit of making their intentions very public by informing the press, but never following up to let them know when they have either failed or postponed. "News" such as what you have reported is simply Dell's self-serving noise.

GOOD NEWS!!! When the buzz about WM2003 came about, I called dell for my free upgrade. After an hour on the phone with this women, she said that they weren't shipping until the performance issues fixed and she couldn't order it but she could put me on an e-mail list. Welps, I now have a new order on my stat page for a free CD of PPC2003 yay

Put me down for A. You also can't mention here reason C. But, you can put myself and a whole bunch of people down for C.

Maybe nobody cares anymore! Maybe they like the way their Ax's perform now and simply don't trust Dell anymore!

Yeah, I'll admit I'm pretty damn disillusioned with the whole thing now too. It's pretty amazing how Dell managed to completely screw this up. Especially when they came out of the gate so strongly in being one of the first to offer WM 2003.

All I can say is that I think this is their last chance with me. If they can't deliver this time around I can't see any way I'd feel comfortable buying another Dell PDA product in the future. There simply is no excuse at this point (and even now I think I'm cutting them a few miles of slack ).

The A05 ROM dates July 16th. Fixed devices have been shipping since July 25th. The downloadable A04 ROM upgrade was posted about a week later, followed by the delivery of the first upgrade CDs in Europe in early August.
And it only took them two months from ROM release to actually start shipping it to the people who need it? I'm impressed ;)

Got the same message via phone from Dell. I'll let them cancel my order then wait a few months to see what the inevitable problems are before I order again (if ever). Anyway what'sthe rush? I haven't updated from AO2 which runs just fine. The only advantage I've heard about WM2003 is improved wireless access. But I have a Linksys WCF12. There are no drivers for this one yet, so why should I be in a rush?

I saw a speed increase (subjective) and other things I really liked about WM2003. PPC2002 was also OK for me, but I liked WM2003 more.

The dreaded call!

Just received the much anticipated call from Dell, delaying my upgrade CD from 9/17 to 10/17
:realmad: :bang:
I am so glad 2002 works!
