If the trouble is actually your E-mail in the Inbox (or personal folders), you will want to run the "Mailbox Repair" tool under the Tools Menu (Outlook 98 and prior), or the "Detect & Repair" option under the Help menu (Outlook 2000 forward).
In most cases that I've seen, the trouble is actually with the ActiveSync database on the PDA. The PDA losses synchronization (no pun intended) with Outlook's database. The only way this can be effectively resolved is to uninstall ActiveSync from the PDA and the Host computer, delete the ActiveSync directories on both devices, reboot (warm start) both devices, then re-install ActiveSync on the Desktop.
It will automatically be added to the PDA after that...
