They are sending them out, but it never hurts to call just to make sure.

If you bought a PPC w/2003 + A04, Dell will be sending you a CD. Definitely call Dell Tech Support and make sure they have all your info. I called several times to bug them about the whole issue, but I'm not sure if that is why I received the update CD. I did confirm my shipping, email, etc.

I just called Dell Support to request the A05 Patch. The support person put me on hold. When he came back on-line, he said I did not have to order anything; it is free and will be available for down load on 9/17.
I told him that some people have received the patch on a CD that was mailed to them. He said they are not sending out CDs because it will be on the support site for down load.
I guess I will wait until next week and see if a CD comes in or it is posted on the Dell site. :bang: :bang:

Astoundingly, the tech support guy you talked to is completely wrong. At least what he says contradicts every official report to date.

Dell decided (specifically to curb piracy) to release the patch on CD instead of making it available for download. Every account I have read recently on the subject makes it clear that this patch will only be available on CD. The 17th is significant, but only as the date that 2002 -> 2003 upgrades start shipping for some of us older Axim owners. The patch CDs have been going out for over a week now.

The CDs should be automatically sent to all A04 rom users. I would recommend that you call Dell again though and this time demand that you speak with someone higher up in the food chain if you receive another bogus response.

This is exactly the sort of blatantly incompetent tech support that is giving Dell a bad name these days, these people should not be so misinformed.

Several people including myself have been told of the 9/17 posting. It is possible that they have patched their patch so as not to provide the full WM 2003 rom image (the original problem).

I am waiting until 9/17 before spending any more time on the phone with Dell.

Hmmm, well, I just got an update CD this morning from Dell. I find it interesting because mine came with ROM A05, not A04. So, I suppose my question would be should I even bother? I figure mine is fine and has no problems, is version A05 and all, so I should just leave well enough alone, right?

Thanks guys.
