I have an older axim that I'd like to upgrade its OS.

It is currently:


I need to upgrade to atleast Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.


What are my options?

Buy an X30 or X50. WM03SE is not available for any other devices and, while some people have been making newer OS (illicit) ROMs for devices, I've never heard of any for the X5 or X3 and even if there were, we would not discuss them on these forums.

I disagree ebay often has windows mobile 2003 edition for people with windows mobile 2002 that is a nice product. (Proceed with caution as always though when installing rom).

A couple years back I installed a 2003 edition for my 2002 software and it worked real well. Step by step instructions for about 5.00. One of my best buys on ebay.

mostlylisten, you do not have Windows Mobile 2003 SE on an X5. The eBay link you provide is for WM03 (not WM03SE). Look in the System, About and you will see you have version 4.20.1081. WM03SE is Version 4.21.1088

Of course, since WM2003 SE is still WM2003 in some respects, you could still legally make a WM2003 SE rom for an X5, right? Or does Every minor version that MS comes out with have the different license?

Thanks for the info. Im all about avoiding time and hassle, i'd rather throw $80-$120 bucks at a used X30/X50 off of ebay and know it will be good to go..

To confirm, the standard X30s/X50s will have atleast Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition?

Yes, both the X30 and X50 series came with WM2003SE installed.
