Text (SMS) Messages from PPC

Guys,

This must have been asked before, but I can't find anything....

How can I send and receive Text messages form my Pocket PC (Win Mobile 2003SE)?

Ideally, from Pocket Outlook, as tis would make management and tracking so much easier....

Jhc99,

Well, not really.

I'm looking for a way of sending and receiving Text messages WITHOUT a mobile phone.

My plan is to find a WIFI hotspot, fire off a few text messages and collect the replies at the next hotspot......does that sound unreasonable?

I had a mobile phone almost 20 years ago and rarely used it...I also resented being "contactable" all the time.. Eventually I gave it away and have never really needed one since.

Would be nice to send the occasional text through the Axim though.

Skype allows you to send text/sms messages.
That would work for you from hotspots.
I'm not sure how much each sms costs, but everything else about skype is very cheap.

would it not be easier to use email address gateways for the txt messages? You could then just use your normal email for it.

For example, AT&T uses (10 digit phonenumber)@txt.att.net and when they reply, it will be gated back to your email.

It wouldn't cost you anything to do it that way if you are looking for free wifi.

You can also use this nice little service:

txtDrop.com - Completely Free Text Messaging

They have a mobile interface as well.

Sorry Guys, I guess I should have underlined the fact that I'm in England...

Texts are aroud 24 cents here, so I doubt anyone would create a system that allows you to do it for free.....

I'm happy to pay the going rate (happier to pay less) but I haven't found anyone that allows text delivery to English-based mobile phones.

I have Skype mobile installed, which seems to work (after a fashon), but Skype tell me that it can't send texts....maybe you know better?

T-mobile and 02 will let you send messages via their website if you have a contract.

Yeah, Sorry, you are right about that.
I use it all the time from my PC but the mobile version doesn't have sms feature yet.
