Question Wm2003 - Help

This is my first post, so please forgive my inexperience. I have the Axim 400 running WM2003 A5. I have been having many problems with the software (slow starts, skipping frames, etc) and want to reinstall it--fresh. Everytime I try to re-install it says that I already have the version and do not need to. Unfortunately it does not give me an option to override this. Does anyone know how I can re-install a same ROM version over the top of the current one? Do I have to go back to 2002 or what? LOST and CONFUSED.

On pocket pcs you don't really reinstall the OS like you would on a desktop. Doing a hard reset should have the same effect, and should give you a clean slate. Basically if you do a hard reset and you are still having problems then you may need to see if the applications you are using have known compatibility problems with WM2003. If they do, then you will have to wait for a new version of the application.

As far as I know there is no way to go back to an older version of the OS unless you specifically backed it up when you were upgrading. This is different than backing up your data using activesync, it is a backup of the ROM itself that is apparently performed by the WM2003 installer.

Cool WM2003 HELP

Thanks for the reply ajabbari. My problem is two fold. First, I have done a hard reset and it makes it a little better but there are still problems. Second, I did not back up the OLD 2002 because I was updating to the new 2003. The system I had was the A04 update and then the Ao4 to A05 (before they fixed problems). Now I have the new CD but can not update to the corrected version. Dell tells me that everything should be OK and they do not seem to really care about the problem. All of my apps have been updated to 2003 versions and yet I still have problems. Basically, I am desperate because this thing tuns so much slower than before, turns itself off and does not allow alarms to play. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

I'm a little bit unclear here... did your Axim come with PPC 2002 or WM 2003 (ver A04)? What are you comparing the current performance of your Axim against, PPC 2002? If you are comparing it against WM2003 then WM2003 A05 should be much faster than WM2003 A04.

If it came with WM2003 A04 then if the A05 update installed properly (and it would have told you if it didn't I think) you should be as up to date as everybody else here. The CDs that are going out now use the exact same A05 rom version that was released originally on the web, only the installer has changed. If you are running WM2003 A05 and you are still having problems after a hard reset, then I would look into the applications that you are using and I would make sure that they are specifically compatible with WM2003. Do not assume that PPC 2002 apps will work, from what I am hearing there are quite a few that have problems.

If you are using WM2003 apps, and you are still having extreme problems (freezing, major speed issues) then you may want to get in touch with Dell. There may be something more wrong with your Axim. Be advised though, if you choose to have Dell replace your Axim after your 30-day satisfaction guarantee, they may do so with a refurbished one at their discretion.

There are some documented sound/alarm issues with WM2003 on the Axim that you may want to look up as well.

Hope this helps.
