Mad More Sync problems

I have been having this problem for sometime. I have 2 Axes, one upgraded and one from the factory. I have installed the latest AS on both the PC's that I sync with. THe connection is dropped on both at some random interval. I have contacted Dell about this problem and got some of the most pathetic support attempts that you can imagine. I refered them to the threads from here and PPC Thoughts on this subject. My biggest problem with Dell's responce is that they want me to trouble shoot this problem for them. I simply don't have the time or the inclination to do this. I don't have any warm fuzzies that Dell will fix this with a ROM upgrade if they act like the problem doesn't exist.

Also, while I have USB trackballs on both systems, they aren't Logitech so that commonality is gone. How many with this sync problem are using add on USB 2.o cards to sync through? Maybe we should start looking for similar system attributes.

I had the same problem, and this is what i did....
my base was connected to an USB 2.0 port, so i just plugged it to an external usb 1.1 hub that i have connected to a usb 1.1 port from my motherboard. Prolly it will work if i dont use the hub and i connect it directly to the usb 1.1 port.

i dont know if it will work if the hub is connected to an USB 2.0 u mite wanna give it a try.

good luck

You guys may have something with the USB conflict. I have a phone line lan connection that uses the USB port too. If i have it enabled, the ax will not connect at all or connects but will not sync. If i restart ASync with the lan connection disabled, the ax works everytime. I can even re-enable the lan connection after the ax connects but before it has sync'd and it will still be alright. Maybe Dell needs to look at the USB driver and see if it has a problem.

Well, after the last post submitted by me in this thread. I have upgraded the BIOS of the laptop it's a DELL INSPIRON 8500 and the latest drivers for the AXIM... and I haven't had the problem talked about in the thread. It's solved!! I've even tried to provoke the error by removing the AXIM from the dock and insert it rally fast and slow and in every way i could think of :)
But every time i inserted the AXIM in the dock i got the auhentication window poping up in the screen.
So i guess my problem is solved.

I had the same problem...what kind of SD card are you using?

I figured out the issue - I had installed a SanDisk 256 MB SD card (and took out the Dell card which shipped with the Axim X3i)...that SanDisk card, I found out, has some bug in it, which messed up the ActiveSync. When you and I were on the phone, I had the Dell card in the unit, as I was planning to ship it back. After we spoke, I put the SanDisk back in and experienced the same problems. The first time I removed the SanDisk card, all went well.

I found a post on another thread indicating that Icbar/Wisbar/Gigabar was the culprit. I removed Gigabar from my AX and found that it no longer disconnects.

I think this would make a great poll: "Are you happy with activesync?" Plus, you'd only have to have one response option.

The SD card theory sounds very likely - I've only started getting this problem after getting a new "Dell Specific" 256MB SD Card from Sandisk, to replace a faulty one...

Folks, It is not a program or SD or CF card issue.
Let me explain.
I have had my Axim Since Feb 03, After AS3.5 I had no problems.
I was Using a KT400 Chipset with USB 2.0. I then recieved the WM2003 upgrade, Installed. It worked perfectly after setting the option in Active Sync.
Now here is where it get's kooky. I purchased a Nforce2 Ultra Mainboard, and poof, Problem staying synced. Tried everything, slowed the USB down, check power levels, talked to Dell. (Their answer was a Defective Axim). Yea Right. Tried Hubs, tried different OPTI Usb Controllers. Finally the Nforce board was just plain Quirky, and I went back to PPC2002. Still the Axim would just go Nuts, and lose Sync. ARRRGH!
Finally I had had enough, so, I purchased a VIA KT600 Mainboard and if I will be Damned, it Stays Rock Stable. So, I loaded Wm2003 back on. And Dirt Stable. 3 Day's in a row, it has stayed synced up. Now I do not know exactly why? this is. ONE it is either a USB driver issue in Active Sync, OR it is Something in Anything other than the VIA controller executing a Quit command.
Either Way, the Transfer rate is just as high as the Nvidia solution, or the Opti solution. But, All the bugs are gone. Anyone else care to elaborate on what they have as a USB Controller, What is syncing and what is losing sync? Hope that helps some of you.

I have a Logitech optical wireless mouse with the latest logitech drivers (same driver as the MX700). I hook mine up to the PS/2 port (I avoid using the USB port for a mouse). I have Active Sync 3.7.1 and I don't have problems with it.

Sounds like possibly a USB driver issue? I also have XP Pro with the latest MS updates.

Same problem. X5, ActiveSync 3.7.1, WM2003 update.

Host PC: Dell Dimension 8250, bios version A05 (latest).

Everything ran fine with PPC 2002 and AS 3.7.1 (and even 3.6, 3.7, etc). I had an older BIOS revision then (A01) but that was it.

My mouse is a Dell branded Logitech, optical, USB. It unfortunately does not like PS/2 converters otherwise it would be on the PS/2 port.

I am also running WisBar. I've turned it off for now, but have not uninstalled it from the Axim...

This is quite frustrating :/

OH, and I discovered... there are MANY MANY users with this problem on the Dell Talk forums. A thread has like 7 pages and is continuing to grow...

Mine does the same thing, except it would connect then as it attempts to do they synch thing get some error and disconnect. (Does it everytime I dock it)

The only way I can get it to connect to my axim again is to delete my user and connect to my computer as a guest.

I loose all synch options, the ability to remote sync, and a stupid screen pops up every time, but its better than hardresetting my ax. And it still lets me xfer my files good enuff.

hope this helps everyone else as did for me so far. I was having an issue after upgrading my Axim to PPC 2003 it would disconnect after a few minutes or up to an hour. After playing with almost every setting on both the Axim and Desktop (Dell 2350) I got it to sync from 5:30 Friday night to Monday at 6:30am with out losing sync once. Goto Device Manager> USB Controllers > USB Root Hubs. Right click on it (There will be more then one) goto properties>power management and uncheck to the box "allow windows to shut power off to this device". After making this change I am able to stay synced until a remove my axim form the cradle. Give it a shot, let me know if it works for you too. If it does maybe Dell with post a Knowledge Base for it.

Same thing here.
That's why I came to this area, to see how others have solved the problem that I "didn't have" before I upgraded to 2003. NUTS!
