Dell TrueMobile 300 Bluetooth & WinMobile 2003
I just got off the phone with Dell Support, and there is an issue with Windows Mobile 2003 and the Dell TrueMobile 300 Bluetooth Compact Flash divers for Windows 2003 (Version A02).
The issue is that the Bluetooth Manager is not available, so you can not set up computers to Activesync via bluetooth. You also can not set up shared internet access via desktop PCs over BLuetooth. I had been using both the Active sync and Internet access with Pocket PC 2002. A Dell support tech told me there are several issue with Dell Drivers and Windows Mobile 2003, and a patch will be out in two weeks, along with new drivers. The Dell support tech suggest I continue to run Pocket PC 2002 until the pacht and new drivers are posted.

So what's new?
This Dell TrueMobile Bluetooth 300 CF driver farce has been going on for months. They initially forgot about the drivers for their own card when they released WM 2003. There has been correspondance on the Dell Community Support forum for at least two months about this. There is a 2003 driver on the Dell UK page but this apparently don't work as your Bluetooth Manager disappears!
I have to admit I got really peeved about this as I bought the Axim for, amongst other things, ActiveSyncing to Outlook. I was also told, after I bought their card for £60 and WM 2003, to keep 2002 on my machine until drivers are released. That was back in June. I voted with my wallet, sold it and got an Ipaq 1940 which has 2003 and built in Bluetooth and it works out of the box. I liked the Ax, the price was great but a company as large as Dell have really handled this badlly and lost a lot of customers. And outsourcing Customer Support to India is another subject....

Doug
Currently Dell Axim X50V. Back after 2 years away. Not enough room for what I've been through in the past 12 months! |

Doug, I agree!
I have really been put off Dell bigtime by the aforementioned antics. Untill now, I've had four Dell PC/Laptops without any problem with product or support. Worse than non functionality, is the feeling that I've been had - eg Dell quite happily sold me the BT card knowing that it wouldn't work with 2003 - yet there were no explicit warnings on their web site, purchase or installation documentaion etc. I really do not have the time to be bothered with all this! So far my Axim hasn't delivered, what with a faulty OS, lack of BT support etc, anywhere near the fun that I expected. Still, I'm ever an optimist!
