Pockettop Keyboard *grumble*

I just talked to Micro Innovations and they're not sure if they've any intention of releasing a new driver for the Pockettop Keyboard for WM2003. Rather keeps us in the cold, doesn't it? So much for "universal".

Boy, I'm sure glad that I bought one. Now it's useless. At least I can pretend.

Err... it works with WM2003.

You just have to follow their instructions to the letter.

http://www.ultimatekeyboard.com/driv...cketPC2002.zip

Remove Memory cards from PDA before installing. See special instructions below.

Note: This driver works with Samsung PC2003 and Dell Axim 5 PC2003 (But the 3rd party rotational software hangs the OS)
Make sure you IR port is off of AUTO TRANSMIT as it makes the IR port unavailable.

REMOVE ALL MEMORY CARDS BEFORE INSTALLING DRIVER ON POCKETPC'S. Enabling the Pocketop keyboard once it has been installed is via the "input method selector" when in applications. It is the up arrow on the bottom right side of your screen. HARD RESET REQUIRED IF PREVIOUS DRIVER INSTALLED. If you have the Pocketop icon in your Programs menu, you still have the PocketPC2000 version of the Pocketop driver, and will need to Hard reset to remove it.

Driver installation instructions

1. Ensure you have the lastest device system software installed for your handheld.
2. Remove any previous versions of the Keyboard Driver on your handheld by accessing the Add/Remove Programs application within the Programs directory. Highlight the driver and tap remove.
3. Perform a soft re-set.
4. Download the PocketPC driver to any location on your hard drive.
5. Unzip the file. (Use the free Winzip tool)
6. Double Click on Setup.exe
7. The Setup.exe together with ActiveSync will install the driver onto the device.
8. Perform a soft re-set.
9. The Keyboard driver can be activated launching any application, other than the Today screen, and accessing the "Pocketop Keyboard" from the choice of input methods. The short-cut to the choice of input methods can be found as a small keyboard icon at the lower right hand corner of the PDA display. Tap on "Pocketop Keyboard" when the pop-up menu appears activating the driver at which point icons will appear for rotation, backlight brightness, text macro and sound off/on.

Rotation doesn't work in WM2003. Remember to turn off Beam Receive (Settings/Communications/Beam...) or you'll get a 'Cannot open COM port' message.

I know it works because I helped someone install it on their WM2003 Dell Axim. (Alas, still waiting for my copy of the upgrade...)

Hmph. After I posted yesterday, I went on the Pocketop website and saw the drivers for 2003 and thought, "Hey, it does work with 2003!" I did have the previous driver installed and did everything I could to install the new one without a hard reset. Nothin' doin'. It's required.

Thanks a ton!

PC2002 gave a warning when the Infrared was activated and you tried to use the keyboard. Mobile 2003 just gives you a COM error. Quite ironic given the loss of user-friendliness, eh? BUT... it worked! Thanks a ton for the instructions. :)

I'm quite surprised Pockettop didn't have a clue about this one, given that it is their product and all.

JeffLewis is Da Man!

After installing and uninstalling the driver more than a few times on the WM2003 update - I finally did it without the SD card, still got the same error, then after unchecking "receive all incoming beams" - it worked.

I have the Full version Nyidot VDM screen rotation SW installed - for which ver 3.22 is supposed to be 2003 compatible. When using the full version, rotation must be disabled in the PockeTop driver.

I also use SOTI PC Controller Pro - which negates the need for the PockeTop at home. :D

Does WM2003 have the same bug where if you disable "receive all incoming beams" the CPU goes to high speed and doesn't auto mode slow down at all? If so, when using the pockettop keyboard remember to go back and check that box if you want "normal" to work.

Hey Guys,

Do any of you know if a driver exists for Citipack's IR 501 Keyboard??? I've bought one recently on some news that one was coming out and I've not heard anything. Citipack won't even respond to my emails...

Sorry - I've never even seen the IR 501. Looking on their site, it's definitely different from the Pocketop... I doubt the drivers would be compatible.

I like the line from their site though 'Any new models supported will be updated occasionally.' That sure inspires confidence about the level of support a customer will get from them.

Hopefully this is just an example of bad Chinese to English translation and they really mean 'regularly' or 'as needed' not 'occasionally'.
