Pissed by Nov. delivery. What should I do?
Guys,
Help me, I'm beyond mad and pissed by Dell.
Basically after waiting for arrival of 2003 upgrade CDs for almost 3 months, now Dell shows me an expected delivery date of Nov. 10. More was mentioned in an earlier thread:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...threadid=23198
However, I'm too busy at work and with family to go through lengthy phone calling. What should I do?
Can someone tells me why can't they deliver the CDs right now? Because they are free upgrades and have to be made in some 3rd world country with the cheapest possible materials and thus takes 1.5 months to be available? But if I pay them $$$ I can get the CDs now like everyone else?
Pardon my venting. But I've reached my limit...
Ehien

Be patient they are shipping sooner then that but they put a later date on there just to cover their butts. BUt since the cds are mailing you should get it sooner then that

Call and be real nice. When I first talked to Dell about buying the upgrade, they were going to charge me $20 and ship it on Nov 4. This was Monday. I said forget it, and cancelled my order. On Wednesday I had my wife try. She not only got the upgrade for free, but she was able to have them overnight it to me. It shipped from Dell yesterday and it is now in my hands. I didn't even have to pay for shipping. So, just talk to them. You just need to find the reight tech to talk to.

I ordered the CD on Wednesday of this week and they told me there was a 30 day lead time. It came today (Friday). Go figure.

I got tired of waiting and called Dell Customer Service. I was told that my order was essentially in limbo and would not have ever been processed if I hadn't called. Some kind of glitch in the order system. Anyway, the CSR gave my order info to her manager who contacted the appropriate department. This was last Friday and on the following Monday it arrived via Airborne Express.
I highly recommend calling. The CSR can expedite your order.

Alright... I knew you guys can give me the answers.
I'll try to get the right CSR (definitely not the last one) to set things straight. The last one told me the shipping was free, but on-line record doesn't show so.
Still Dell could've made this much more painless. Like following through on the original order.
Oh well, just fed up with all kind of waiting...
3 months for this upgrade and counting...
4 months for our family minivan and counting...
3 weeks for Compaq X1000 NB (got this one)...

Anyone who has ever purchased anything from Dell should know that Dell
a. Almost never tells you it will ship tomorrow
b. Almost always does what they say they can't do in "a" above.
I have never ordered anything from Dell (3 computers, my Ax for starters) when they promised prompt delivery. I have always had it, in hand, before they have promised it would be released (and before their online notification system notifies me it has shipped). I even had my Ax before it was released for production. I guess Dell is like the shoemaker - too busy servicing others to make sure it's system works.:crooked:

I had ordered the 2003 upgrade when it was first announced and kept getting ship dates off in the future sometime. Then they emailed me saying if I didn't call or email them they HAD to cancel my order. I hadn't found the Linksys WCF12 wireless LAN drivers yet so I thought I'd wait and let them cancel the order.
It was sitting on my front step last week, much to my surprise. I have a tennis scoring program that was too slow so I decided to see what 2003 could do for me. Not only did the upgrade go great, but it doubled the speed of the program. I had to load the MS Embedded VB plugins, but that was easy.
I'm real glad I upgraded and I'm sure you'll get yours soon.

Guys I don't really want to scare you off here, I mean I bought and received the upgrade myself, but with some of the issues people are reporting with WM 2003, you may want to at least reconsider your hurry to get it any sooner. In my case I've decided to wait for the next ROM revision to be released before I upgrade.
I can understand a desire to get your orders sorted out, but I think that once you're sure that your orders are not in a state of "limbo". Just take a deep breath and try to forget about WM2003 until your CD arrives. At this point (A05) it would seem debatable if the improvements offered clearly outweigh the potential headaches involved. I'm sure that Dell will iron the major stuff out by the next release. All I'm saying is there isn't much to gain by rushing here.
BTW, don't let the Nov. date scare you. Dell apparently is delivering these things much sooner. You'll probably have it in within two weeks tops.

I ordered the upgrade thursday evening, the sales person said he estimated maybe NOV 7th at the earliest. After reading this thread I checked the order status and it said it shipped that night and Airborne lists it as going to be delivered tomorrow. So hopefully you should have it soon.

Can someone who already received the upgrade CD post the part number from their order (please don't quote from memory, get the number from your online order status page). I have a feeling that those who already got the CD have a different part number from those who have been waiting for months.

Do what I did. Wait. Good things come to those who wait. If it is that important buy a new unit. If it just for your enjoyment, be patient, you and your Axim will have many happy hours together. Don't be afraid to install it. There are some programs that don't work, but if those programs are worth anything they will be updated soon. My shipment beat the e-mail telling me it was coming.

Thought so too, that's why I posted the SKU # on my other thread: 310-4212
Is this the same # for others who have received theirs?
I have two orders of this # with Dell. One stuck at "In Production" for 3 months and one at "Order Processing" for about a week.

F!$@%!$^%k Dell!!!!!
I haven't been so pissed for so long...
I have been so busy at work and was not able to hang on the phone whole day. But with the suggestions given here and another thread I gave it another chance and called Dell.
It ended up wasting more than 30min of my time just to got kicked around.
I talked to two CSR and one sales. The first CSR said she couldn't solve my order problem and only a sales could. She gave me a "direct" # and then "transferred" me to sales department. But the "transfer" put me back to their phone menu loop of selecting "Home system", "Catalog", etc. instead of getting to any real person. I hung up and called the direct line (800-915-3355) only to found that it's the same phone menu, far from "direct". Then with the same extension I used earlier (66966) I got to another CSR. He tried to do the same thing by giving me the same 800 # and then an extension (19511). Same thing happened when he transferred me to sales- same phone menu. I hung up again and dialed the new extension only to be told that this line didn't exist. Ok I called again and went through phone menu to get to sales depart. The sales said he couldn't fix my problem unless I want to order the $30 upgrade CD. Mine is a free upgrade that he had no way of modifying. Wha....... I said please get me your supervisor or one who can help. He said sure no problem. And guess what- back to the same phone menu again.
That's it. I had enough dickhead Dell CSR/sales. This is by far the WORST CS I've ever encountered. I won't call them again. If it comes, fine. If it doesn't, I'm going to sell my Axim and get new PPC that comes with WM2003.
It's a pity to leave this wonderful forum. But as you can see it's Dell that drove me away, it's not my choice.
Sigh...

Sorry to hear that your experience was so bad with the CS. I would just give it a week or two if I were you. In my experience the most Dell reps can do when your order is pending is pretty much just quote you what you see on your order status page. They usually don't have any accurate "inside info" as to why your stuff may not have shipped.
If you haven't gotten your upgrade within a week or two, then I doubt anyone would blame you for looking elsewhere for your PPC solutions.
BTW, if you're upgrading from PPC 2002 don't sweat this whole thing too much. With some of the things I've been hearing about 2003, Dell is probably doing you a favor by delaying your order (you're probably just missing out on all of the additional headaches you're bound to have once you get it). I personally won't be upgrading until the next A0x revision comes out.
Also, I've been on hold with Dell tech support for almost 2 hours before (was waiting to see just how long it would take), and I was pretty pissed afterwards. I find that the key to dealing with them is:
a) Try to avoid calling
b) A lot of it has to do with the time of day you call, trying to avoid peak hours.
c) Some of it also has to do with the person you are talking to. If you're talking to US tech support just try to be courteous and patient, and in most case things are worked out. If you end up talking to Indian tech support, I don't think it matters how you talk to them, your options will be limited.
