WM2003 and VPN
Does anyone have any experience with VPN and WM2003? I am upgrading very soon and would like to know if it works better than in 2002.

I'm about to undertake the upgrade adventure now.
I previously used VPN in 2002 with moderate success. I'll let you know how 2003 works, when/if I can get it set up again. Joe

No problem: Now here's my findings so far.
I looks like VPN will work just as well in 2003, not sure if it's any better or worse; however, It doesn't seem remote syncing is possible. Hopefully someone will correct me on this, but my experiences and posts I have read indicate there is a bug and you will only be able to sync as a guest through a VPN. Looking around MS site now trying to confirm and get more info on this. Joe

I correct myself, the VPN remote sync does work...sometimes.
I'm closing in on a solution, but I've found out so far it has something to do with the pockethosts. I don't know if pockethosts is the problem or if it's deeper than that. For some reason, deleting the entry for my computer pointing to my VPN server IP and then reenabling it let's it sync fine until the VPN connection is dropped, then it will reconnect but only as a guest. I have no problems syncing without the VPN on my home wireless network. Joe

After upgrading, I can successfully VPN to my corp network and remotely sync with my desktop PC over the VPN connection. I had to re-create the VPN connection after upgrading. I use IPSec and it works fine. I did setup the proxy server settings before attempting the VPN connection. (I needed the proxy stuff for internet access while at work connected via WiFi) Just follow the connection creating wizard to setup the connection and you credentials.

Did you have any problems connecting as a guest when you sync remotely through the VPN? Sometimes I get guest sometimes I get my partnership...
Are you using pockethosts? Here's what I have to do to get remote sync through VPN to work with my partnership. 1) Disable Pockethosts 2) Connect to VPN 3) Disconnect VPN 4) Enable Pockethosts pointing to my computer's name 5) Establish VPN and Sync Any idea what's going on here??

I got VPN working fine with 2k2. With WM2k3 it works perfect! Very simple to setup when compared to 2k2. Active sync works seamlessly too! Would recommend upgrading to anyone.
With any OS upgrade you may run in to some kind of compatibility issues, mostly minor but usually easily resolved plus, I think WM2k3 is worth the upgrade.

Windows Mobile 2003 PPTP VPN
I am not able to get a login into my VPN server since upgrading to WM2003. With Pocket PC it worked great. Since the upgrade I cannot get autenticated. On my wireless sniffer I never see the login attempt. I can ping the VPN server just fine. Any help would be appreciated.
By the way My VPN is using Microsofts PPTP.

WM2003 with PPTP VPN
Looks like my problems was that I had the same profile picked under network management. I change the top profile to someting bogus and everything started to work just fine.

I can wireless sync in my home network and remotely with VPN without changing any settings and apparently I don't even have to use pocket hosts anymore.
Success!! Joe | |||||
