To upgrade or not to upgrade - That is the question
I have a question that may have been answered numerous times on the forum but I have not seen any posts lately. I have one of the early model Axims that I purchased last November. It is still running 2002. I have the 2003 CD but have not decided if I want to upgrade or not. I do not use WiFi on the Axim. I mainly use the PDA as a scheduling device (Pocket Informant) and a reader (Peanut Press). My question is this. Is there really a good reason to upgrade to 2003. What will I really gain by going thru the pain and time of upgrading. Will the Axim be more stable or run that much faster. Thanks for your advice.

The answer is yes. Upgrade. Your axim is probably a PXA255 even though WM2002 reports it as a PXA250. Along with that there's other enhancements and features that come with WM2003 that you might like. You could always start using it for more than just scheduling and a reader in the future. The upgrade is really not that much of a hassle if you just follow the instructions.
Have fun... | ||||

I upgraded not too long ago, I would not go back! WM2k3 is great! Apps run much faster and the network settings alone make this upgrade worth it.
At first I had an issue with my Linksys WiFi card, however, they have since released beta drivers which work as good as the orignal. - I would upgrade!

Boy was I surprised
Order my WM2003 Tuesday,, October 7th. Was told it would not be shipped until November 15th. Got it Friday, October 10th
. Upgraded without a hitch, except the instructions for creating a new partnership using your old Device ID didn't work out, but that was ok, just created a new one. My only beef is that Pocket Money will not work and it appears that I will have to buy the new program (which isn't a bad thing either, anytime I can get an upgrade, I'm for it.)

It's a crap shoot. Most upgrades work and the system is faster and more stable. A few (like mine) would not no matter what I tried. I finally ended up getting a replacement Ax, which probably isn't a bad thing. Just make sure you do the backup the correct way through the upgrade program. You can always go back.

Well, after much debate....I did perform the upgrade (never ordered it from Dell, it just showed up on my doorstep last week..called Dell, no charge..?!?!?!?!?!?!?!) I have a X5 PXA250 (purchased last Nov.)....install was easy, no problems...just upgraded to ActiveSync 3.7.1....better connection....much faster sync.

I took the advise of most of the group and did the upgrade to 2003. Upgrade went without a problem and in my subjective opinion the Axim runs faster now. Glad I upgraded. Syncs fine and faster. No freeze problems. Life is good. Thanks for all the advise I was given.
