Need help. Should I update to 2003 or not?
I have an X5 with ROM A00 and PXA250 CPU, I don’t use WiFi, Should I Upgrade to PPC 2003 and will it significant speed up PXA250.
Are Pocket Word and Media Player much better in 2003 than in 2002?
Is the Flashing Process very risky?

Don't upgrade unless you feel like downgrading later on. My axim worked great until I upgraded. I had a lot of little glitches after I upgraded to WM2003. I just finished reverting back to the saved ROM. Thank God I backed up. Everything works great now. I'm going to try to return this upgrade to Dell and get my money back!

I've had just the opposite experience than kevmck, the ugrade was flawless and I've seen definate improvement in performance on my original PXA250 device.

However, the main reason for upgrading (in my opinion) are the following:

(1) Enhancements to PIE. The new version supports more websites.
(2) Enhancements to WMP. The new version 9.0 is more powerful than 8.5.
(3) Enhancements to INBOX. The new version has functional improvements.

There are also numerous other subtle changes to WM2003 that I find an additional benefit.

And of course, I didn't mention it because you stated your not into WIFI, but there are those obvious improvements also.

I agree...My Ax has a pxa250 and it was turned into a pocket rocket. Upgrade was flawless and I wouldn't go back. I have seen no glitches at all.

Cheers

I want to second KPDUTY and Tayzer. I approached the upgrade with some uneasiness, based on some of the reports from other members here, but I must say that I am very pleased indeed with WM2003. The upgrade went easily, and I have enjoyed all the benefits listed above.

I agree that there are definite improvements in the WM2003 release. However the A05 ROM still seems to be to darn buggy to justify an upgrade. Since upgrading to WM2003 I have had so many problems that I am in the middle of downgrading back to the saved ROM. WM2003 will randomly drop my sync connection and sometimes randomly reconnect on its own. My CF card will dissappear while still securely seated in the slot. Random lockups cause me to have to soft reset constantly. Some programs will not allow me to open them more than one time without soft resetting (ie. Opening a word document with Pocket Word).

I also forgot to mention that soft reset takes between 10 to 30 seconds. This can be a real problem if you are resetting every few minutes like I have to.

I also found out that there is a patch release to fix the soft reset issue. http://www.xscale.de/modules.php?nam...rticle&sid=372
