I am supposedly entitled to a free upgrade to 2003 since I bought my X5 after 5/23, but no one at Dell knows anything. I keep getting bounced around between phone representatives and departments, chatting doesn't work, and they won't answer emails. I'm about ready to pay for the thing because of the quick service people are talking about here.

Does anybody know the correct phone number or person/department to talk to in order to get the free upgrade?

Anyone know if installing the upgrade will wipe out all installed programs? If so, what's the best way to make a back-up?

Is the upgrade worth having if I'm NOT interested in Wireless features? What non-wireless advantages have you folks found?

Pescador, for what its worth to you, I'm still running PPC2002 and my X5 does what I need it to do. It will run the same programs, etc. You may notice a few differences/advantages in upgrading to 2003, but its not like moving from Win98 to XP. I'm not sure what PPC v. 3.0.111171 is but you can do wireless on either 2002 or 2003. You have to determine if there is something that 2003 will provide for you that meets your needs.

... on my Axim. This is the version of PPC that came with my Axim when I bought it (04-30-2003). I'm wondering if I would benefit from any sort of upgrade, but as surprising as this might seem, I can't really get a good answer from the people at Dell.

I'd like to order the 2003 upgrade for my x5,however I live in Ontario... does anyone have a canadian link for this?

I just phoned dell canada - the upgrade will not be available in canada until next year, the delay is from licensing issues the rep said. He did say I can order through dell usa if I have a us address to send the upgrade to (see other threads where this has been done successfully)

Dell star again with customer service!

I tried to order from Dell USA it took over 45 minutes to place the order, primarily because the rep was unable to find the upgrade details. In the end I read them to him off the internet order page. Finally they started to process the order but then told me they cannot accept VISA cards with a Canadian address. They told me to order from Dell Canada even though I explained that Dell canada does not have the product.

I have yet to receive a single reply from Dell customer service that is helpful. I am amazed that Dell remain in business.

X3's come with WM2003 already installed.

Just so that I can understand this better. Unlike Windows XP, Windows for Pocket PC does not get free updates? Or is this update like getting a full new version of Windows, similar to upgrading from Win98 to WinXP? If so, where can I get patches and minor updates for the PPC OS?
