I am looking at upgrading my Ax to WM2003 but I was wondering, before I upgade, if there is a way to go back to 2002 if I am not happy with it. There doesn't seem to be a 2002 install file on the CD that came with my AX.

Backing up 2002 ROM
Is the process of backing up X5 ROM initiated in the Mobile 2003 upgrade process or is this something you have to do independently before you upgrade?
If you have to do the backup independently, what are the steps?

When you run the setup, it prompts you to do this before it starts the upgrade.

. If it backs up the OS then I 'm going to try 2003 , I just want to make sure I can go back if I happen to have an unlucky configuration and the upgrade makes my Axim slow..

If you run the one from the WM2003 setup, it will back ONLY PPC2002. It doesn't backup your PIM nfo.

I didn't knew that. I thought once you go to 2003 you can't go back, and I was afraid that maybe I would need to go back. Now I just have to get 2003 to install it, wish me luck

Good luck is what you will be needing NightPhantom. I ordered upgrade in mid-June, waited till the end of Oct. for them to actually ship it. And then AirBourne Express made a phantom attempt to deliver it and sent it back the very same day. VERY VERY NICE WORK.

bigstick - I'm am unconvinced it is worth the headache. I bought the upgrade in anticipation of setting up a wireless network in my office (hasn't happened yet). I didn't lose any PIM data cause I backed up Outlook first. My primary problem appears to be with ActiveSync. Yes, I've done the 3.7.1 update - no change. My Ax will sync fine the first time of the day; disconnects for no reason after about 20 minutes; I have to reboot the PC or go through Task Manager to kill the AS processes and restart them before I can sync again. If I simply remove the Ax from the cradle and replace it, it will sync files (Favorites too) fine, but all the Outlook info will be greyed out with the dreaded "Attention Required" error message.
I have spent a boat load of time troubleshooting this to no avail. I don't think my experience is unique. I keep hoping that some minor tweak will surface to solve the problem and save me from investing more time in going backward (reinstalling proggies, trying not to lose PIM data, etc.). Good luck with the decision making. I suggest following the "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it" approach; I wish I had.

Your post was incredibly helpful along with the logic: IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!
I already use ActiveSync 3.7 and everything is cool. As such, there really is no reason to upgrade to 2003...except that I am most curious about 1 thing, however. If Mobile 2003 provides WiFi and Bluetooth capability, does that mean that it just is easier to configure WiFi / Bluetooth cards (CF, SD) or does that mean that the 2002 OS is not able to provide WiFi / Bluetooth capability at all, cards or no cards?

It is supposed to be the former - simply easier. There are plenty of threads here that discuss WiFi under PPC2002, and most card manufacturers have 2002 drivers. Curiosity is damn near killing this cat. Stick with what you've got GBPfan. - mm

Agree!! In a nutshell, GBpackerFan, make sure your CF WIFI and BT cards have PPC2003 drivers posted for them if you consider the PPC2003 upgrade. Linksys and Belkin, respecfully, are screwing us by refusing to provide 2003 drivers and utility programs. While there are workarounds, they are not without problems and reduced functionalty. While 2002 needed each CF device to provide a small applet to configure and run it properly, 2003 attempts to do it all from within the OS, hence the problems.
I do think 2003 is faster in most respects.

Thanks mastman and everyone else. Well I ordered the upgrade in mid-june to help in wi-fi setup. I'm still not up and running using wm2002. Just so damn hard to configure, Ikehiker site and many more have been helpful but I guess I have lost my patience with this wi-fi thing. I think I am spoiled with a the wizard setups these days. Does anyone have any suggestions.
