Question On-screen reminder after 03 upgrade

I upgraded to PPC 03 last week.

I thought (someone please confirm) that when your Axim was off, and a reminder started, it would wake up your Axim, show the reminder on screen, and play the audible alarm.

Now, after the upgrade, if my Axim is off , the sound comes on, but no on-screen reminder. I have to hit the power button to turn on the Axim, to see the reminder.

If my Axim is on, the on-screen reminder will show, as well as audible alarm.

Under Sounds and Notifications, Reminders, I have checked the "Display message on screen"

Can someone please:
1) Confirm the Axim will wake up and show on-screen reminder. Please advise if you are running PPC 02 or 03.
2) If this is a known problem with PPC 03, please advise if there is a fix

TIA!

bigdave240 - thanks for posting.

Anyone have a suggestion to fix this problem? I have done numerous soft resets with no resolution to the problem. Hoping for answer short of a hard reset and reinstalling 03.

Thanks

I have the same operation as you listed on a Dell factory refurbished X5+ running WM2K3. Not sure if this the intended operation or a bug :rolling:

Definitely different operation than the PPC 2002 I had prior to this.

Sorry, Don't have a fix...maybe third party alarm/notification software.

Blatty - thanks for posting and confirming someone else is having a similar problem - misery loves company :D

After looking into this further, seems I have additional power related problems.

Under Settings, Power, Advanced Tab, On External, I have checked off "Turn off device if not used for 3 minutes".

My Ax is in it's cradle at my office all day, and while it will dim after 3 minutes of inactivity like it is supposed to do, it is not turning itself off.

So, looks like a hard reset is in my immediate future.

Will post if the hard reset solves my "reminder" and "power" problems

If the Axim is in the cradle, ActiveSync may wake it up all the time, that's why it never turns off. Just a guess. You can check it by disconnecting the cradle from the desktop but leaving the power on the cradle.

Mad

I bought a X5 with the latest PC2003 already installed.
This IS a known problem, having had much discussion with Dell and a promise of a fix they have sent me the solution -
A unit was sent to me yesterday with, wait for it, PC2002!!!
I am not happy.
Had too much trouble getting my buffalo wireless to work to start all over again with 2002.
I have found that a program called "stop time" works the alarm clock well but doesn't fix the other events problems.
Also have a look at http://home.comcast.net/~jonsachs/.

This is also a problem on HP machines, i have
read in other forums, the problem is with WM2003
and only giving software a small window of time
to do their tasks... before it shuts off again,
I am in the same boat though, .. alarms have sucked
ever since WM2003....

My "Power" issue: Per as77's suggestion, I disconnected the USB cable to my Axim cradle, but kept the external power going to it, and it did turn off after 3 minutes.

Question: With my Axim in it's cradle and connected to my PC via the USB cable, and there are no changes in PIM data on my Axim or Outlook, what would keep my Axim "busy" that would prevent it from turning itself off after 3 minutes??

My "Reminder" problem: chrisjelley - thanks for link that lead me to ATA's possible fix for the WM2003 reminder problem

here

Unfortunately, the ATA fix did not work for me.
I downloaded the FixAlarm.exe file, copied to my Ax, put in in Launcher so it is easily acessible from my today screen, and it did find 6 problems after I 1st ran it on my Ax.

I created a test reminder, turned off my Ax, the audio came on, but no screen reminder

I then did a soft reset, went to FixAlarm, it found 3 issues this time, did another test reminder, but again, played audible alarm and no on-screen reminder.

Per Atechware's website, the FixAlarm (provided free to PPC community, so thanks) needs to be started each time you turn on your PDA to fix the issues.

But if the problem is when the PDA is off, how do you get the FixAlarm to work?

They have a AutoFixAlarm for $5 that will run each time you turn on your PDA (a convenience of turning FixAlarm on for you rather than you manually running the .exe file), and I will purchase it if it fixes my problem, but I would like to see the free version work before I upgrade.

I am going to email atechware and ask for further suggestions.

Will advise.

Atechware posted a new FixAlarm, which included a fix for the On-Screen Reminder issue:

http://www.atechware.com/fixalarm.htm

I emailed Atechware 2 weeks ago and advised them of my issues per my previous posts in this thread. They let me in on the beta-tester for the updated FixAlarm with On-Screen Reminder "fix" included, before posting the latest version to their website a few days later.

Thanks to the good folks at Atechware, everything is cool with my Axim these days!

I have PPC 2003 and my axim does wake up, etc. (I didn't upgrade, just started out with 03). Here is where you can change the settings:

start -> settings -> sounds and notifications
Pick 1) select an event and scroll down to reminders. The choices will then show up below and you can check the boxes. Choices to check are -play sound, -repeat, display message on screen, and -flash light for ___ and you pick the length of time you want the light to flash.
Hope that helps.

I have ppc 2003 and I never have any problem with meeting reminders or alarms. I guess I am just lucky.
