Weird Location for Temp Internet Files

I am not sure if this is a WM 2003 issue, but since loading it on my X5, my Temp Internet files are now located in the following folders:

Windows/Profiles/guest/Temporary Internet Files.

This does not appear correct to me and my temp file cleaning software does not see these folders.

Anyone have an idea how to fix it without a hard reset?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

It is WM2003 issue, because my Ax has those temp files in same location. And even Remover can't clean those (Content,Cookies and History).

Tools-Options-Delete Files will clean the Temporary Internet Files.

I have not tried it, but you might be able to change the folder by modifying this registry value: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Cache.

I dont think thay modifing the registry is what the average joe wants to do. Remover will find the folder but the 'index' file gets larger and larger with internet use and I havent foynd a way to delete that yet. it claims it has been locked by a program what the hell that means i have no idea.
You say this is an issue but is it a known issue that dell is working on or is it a street level everyone know but nothing is being done?

I didn't mean it is Dell's issue, but Microsoft's issue. (Though I don't now that for sure , because I haven't another (i.e. iPaq) PDA with WM2003).

If you change the REG setting to a different folder, then soft reset, you can delete in the index.dat files. Then you can change the reg setting back to the original if you like...saved about .5Mb of memory for me!

I've pointed the Temporary Internet Files to my SD card. I pop out the card, load Remover, then pop the card back in, voilą, you can now delete everything, file sizes go to zero.

My method was similar. I too, "...pointed the Temporary Internet Files to my SD card. I pop out the card..." and slide it in my JumpDrive Trio, plug it in my destop and do there the pesky files deletes. Now, I know better. Yours is really neat. Thanks. Great tip!

If you'd rather not deal with the registry, there's another way to delete the index file...although the OS won't allow you to delete the Content.IE5 folder, it will allow you to rename it.

Do the following:

1) Soft reset.
2) Using Explorer, rename the folder.
3) Soft reset again. You'll now find both your renamed folder and a new Content.IE5 folder with an empty index file.
4) Delete the renamed folder. Done!

The registry hack is really quite benign and easy to do. Once done, RAM is no longer used for these temporary files and if needed (although on SD Card the relatively minimal space they use is no longer an issue) can be deleted from your non-volatile memory choice:
