iPaq H5550 - USB prob

Hello all,
This is my first post, I'm very new to PDA's (late starter eh), I have a pair of H5550s, one with a prob:

The prob may well be hardware, not sure; when connecting to USB either cradle or cable, it receives a battery charge but fails to connect to the PC (tried another machine as well in case). It's also fiddly with connecting the wired TomTom GPS receiver in the car. So maybe the port is physically damaged...
Any ideas would be much appreciated, the PDA is about unusable at the mo.

[ As an aside, one of the PDAs was German and I just used HFXs routine to make that English - fantastic, works a treat! ]

Cheers,
Bill
