depends on what kind of functionality you want to have from your today screen/ what kind of information you want available without clicking anything...

personally use wisbar (taskmanager, themeable, skinable) with wisbar advance... sbsh pocket breeze (a must have) and contactbreeze, i have a phone device so i use hudson mobile phonedash and spb gprs monitor, phonealarm, and in addition i use marsware weatherpanel, and sbsh pocketweather for weather updates and weekly forcasts/radar etc.

you can use today plugins for creating or making skortcuts available (so you dont have to go to start programs etc), you can have information displayed about your schedule, homework, projects, meetings, football games, etc, you can have pictures for a phone device, that when tapped can call someone. theres really a lot you can do on your today screen, but you have to find a balance between functionality and performance for your inparticular device. adding too much sometimes can really load your memory and available resources on your pocket pc, so its trial and error. i suggest taking advantage of trial software and reading about what people are talking about regarding specific software.

if you want any suggestions for specific software or needs, please let me know

I agree with jdigitL, it depends on your interests and needs. Take a look at my MyPDA. I have some screen shots of my Today screen and the apps that I run with links to the appropriate websites.

I use iLauncher, and PocketBreeze. That's all I have on my today screen.
As mentioned above, check out some MyPDA screens, you'll find a wealth of information!

FeederReader for podcasts and feeds

FeederReader handles podcasts, audio and video and anything else for which you have a player installed. Plus it's a great news reader as well. FeederReader continues to be wildly popular, has won numerous awards including voted "best" by Brighthand, Smartphone and Pocket PC Magazine Best Software Awards Nominee 2005 and 2006, and "Best Of Show" at the Podcast and Portable Media Expo for "Best Mobile RSS Reader for Podcasts" in 2006.

If you need any help with FeederReader, I answer all questions at the FeederReader Forums including helping with specific feeds or media files.

jdigitL,

I know you didn't mean your comment as a "dis." I hope others see it the same way.

I agree it looks like an advertisement. It was an appropriate response (I think we agree) to someone specifically asking for a "good Podcast application." The portion of my post that looks like an advertisement was intended to justify that FeederReader is "good," as requested.

I've posted some non-advertisement-sounding items to Aximsite (as MobileSmith). Though almost all are generally related to podcasts, feeds, or media playback. And when they don't mention FeederReader explicitly in the post, it's mentioned in my signature. I try to respond to anyone asking a question in which I have experience (I dare you to ask about mp4 playback on a Pocket PC! ;) )

I'm dedicated to earning my living with software, so I hope my "marketing" is forgiven. I have some self-enforced rules when posting related to marketing my software, and answering a recent direct question with a direct answer is WAAAY inside those rules.

My main goal is to help people read news, blogs and to listen to and watch podcasts on their Windows Mobile device. And part of that help is pointing people to the availability, setup, and features of FeederReader.

Sorry for the confusion about my mention of "forums": The FeederReader Forums are available at FeederReader Home sidebar "Forums".

At the risk of soundlink like another advertisement, check out Mobility Guys podcast #7, where I talk more about software development, FeederReader, and podcasting: Mobility Guys » Mobility Guys Podcast #7

Posted in good faith and with no defensiveness whatsoever :),

Greg,

now im no developer, but i totally understand where youre coming from. i have a lot of respect for developers, and for not being one, i think i have more of an understanding than some (due to my communicatoin with many developers on a personal level), the hardships, time and money the pocket pc development community associates with their particular products, etc.

it must be a tough market, with such a limited and niche audience as the pocket pc users, and in addition, the costs involved with advertising and marketing and everything else...

i didnt mean to come off on the negative, i just felt it was kinda lame how a person who dosnt have anything to do with this site one day, suddenly joins specifically to reply to a post linking his soluton (his product in this case). thats all fine and good, if you want to be part of the community (mobilitysite) otherwise, its a lame way (imho) to promote your product(s)

just my $.02
