Needs Attention
When synchronizing my Outlook (XP) inbox, calendar, contacts, notes and tasks I receive an error that says needs attention and it will not synchronize the calendar, contacts, notes or tasks. It does synchronize the indox and avantgo. It was working fine last week. Any one seen this problem?
I've tried uninstalling Activesync 3.7.1 and reinstalling, deleting partnerships and creating new one, tried soft reset of Axim, restart of PC, and everything else I could think of.
Help Me :realmad:

Check through Chris De Herrera's ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide. There are a lot of potential solutions so it usually takes a little perusing to find your exact situation.

I am baffled... I took a look at the link you suggested...I've even gone as far as uninstalling office and activesync, deleting the partnership, rebooting the computer, installing Office 2K, AS3.7.1, cold reset the Axim, new partnership, and I still get Attention Needed when trting to sync Calendar, Contacts, Tasks.
What is going on here...what else can I do??????

blatty-
Do you by any chance use Eudora? Eudora, and for all I know some other programs, use a file that makes the outlook data not sync correctly. I don't know why, or whose fault it is (I've got a guess), but here's what works for me (I use windows 2000; similar things work for other operating systems).
On the pc:
1. Quit all programs.
2. Go to winnt/system32 (or equivalent) and rename the file mapi32.dll to something else -- mapi32.dum, say. Note: in both winnt and system 32 files are hidden by default.
3. In the same folder, system32, run the program fixmapi.exe by doubleclicking on it.
4. Restart your computer.
This works every time for me. I perform this series of steps a couple or more times each day. Irritating? ayup, but better than not being able to sync.
Oh, and after a while you will have files created by something called mapi32.00, mapi32.01, etc. If these get up to mapi32.09, Eudora starts to complain. It still works, but it complains. I just delete all these while I'm deleting, and it seems no harm done.
I love activesync.

Thanks for the reply, but I've been there and done that without success.

blatty - What version of PPC are you running? I had no sync problems until I "upgraded" to WM 2003. Upon PC start and first connection with my Ax, it syncs fine. Typically the connection is lost within 2 to 15 minutes, with no action on my part (i.e. shutting down AS, removing the Ax from the cradel, etc.). I have taken to not worrying about it much, figuring that at least it was charging. When I want to sync again, I do the following: 1) remove Ax from cradle; 2) Open Task Manager on my PC (Windows 2000); 3) end the processes WCESMgr.exe and/or wcescomm.exe; 4) restart ActiveSync; 5) reseat the Ax in the cradle.
Yep this stinks. Many have suggested ActiveSync Toggle, but that does not work for me. I have emailed MicroLogics about my observations, but not heard back yet. I really hope that MS, a techie here, or a third party vendor comes up with a solution. I think fondly back to September when my Ax sync'ed repeatedly with never a problem. Hope this helps in the mean time - mm

Perfect, JakeRich, well at least until there is a true fix for my sync problems. A quick test shows it even recovers from the dreaded "Attention Required" error message. Thanks loads! - mm

Registry Setting???
I am using WM2003, but the problem started recently, as it was working. One thing I did recently was create a new PST file on my PC because the old one was getting very large. do you think this has anthing to do with it.

I DID IT !!!!
After trying every suggested solution from the forums, the web, I finally got it to work.
What did i have to do:
1. Format c:
2. Install fresh copy of WinXP Pro
3. Install Office 2K
4. Install ActiveSync 3.7.1
5. Cold Reset Axim X5
6. Connect Axim
7. Create new partnership
8. Sync
Note: When you are installing all of these programs make sure
you are logged on as an Administrator.
I now am able to sync my contacts, calendar, notes, tasks, email, and avantgo.
Pretty drastic measures, but it was worth it to not be frustrated by this any more. As I really rely on my trusty Ax. Too bad I can't say the same for Activesync.

I'm sure you must be tired after all the time you spent getting the program fixed. I have a similar prblem with files and tasks previously synced being repeatedly not recognized and ending up"needs attention".
the only thing which comes to mind was a windows update which i loaded in shortly before this problem started happening. Do you recall if you updated your securrity before this problem happened?
I plan on following you lead and upgading to activeSync 3.7 from my current 3.5. Where can i find the upgade?
Thanks:)

Yes, the computer I had the problem with is at work and we are mandated to make sure the security updates are kept current. I can't recall if this happen after install of a security update or not.
The ActiveSync version is available from Microsoft's mobile site.
