Unfortunately I don't have the technical background to really make any headway on the syncing problems that so many of us suffer from after upgrading to WM2003. But I am persistent enough to keep looking at it from various angles. While using the Karenware
Computer Profiler today, I noticed there were several listings for "USB Device Name: Dell Axim USB Sync". Associated with these were two different sets of driver information. I opened up regedit and found a listing for Windows CE USB Devices under HKLM\System\ControlSet002\Control\Class\{big alphanumeric string - the very first listing}. Beneath this heading were four keys: 0000, 0001, 0002, and 0003. The first two keys were identified as Driver Version 1.0.2.1, dated 10-1-2002 with an infpath of oem35.inf. The second two keys were identified as DV 3.7.1.3244, dated 9-1-2003 with an infpath of oem56.inf.
Out of ignorance, my basic question is this: Why does there appear to be two different sets of driver information for the USB Axim connection? The second pair of keys looks pretty clearly to be tied to AS version 3.7.1. Does this have the potential to affect the instructions that govern AS operations between the PC and the Ax?
I did a quick search here at Aximsite and found no relevant info, so I figured it was worth a quick post. Any thoughts are welcome, but a detailed technical response will quickly get beyond me. Chances are good there is nothing useful in this observations, but you never know til you ask.
Merry Christmas, mastman
