I recently had to do a hard reset on my Axim X5. After doing so, I tried to reinstall my WM2003 upgrade via the Dell disk. However, after it reads the ROM and tells me that it is already up-to-date, it will not proceed with the upgrade of the WM 2003 software itself.
Anybody have a workaround? I can't believe this hasn't happened to a lot of people at this point, but I didn't see anything on Dell' site or here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Have you checked which operating system is on the machine? It shuld be WM2003. You don't need to update it again when you do a hard reset - it permanently updated the ROM.
Not as sure about the WM2003 Media player patch but you should be ok.
The ROM is fine. It is the upgraded version for use with Windows Mobile 2003, that's the root of the problem.
Because my ROM has been upgraded, the disk will not continue on and upgrade the software to Windows Mobile 2003. The software on my Axim is still PPC 2002, and I can't figure out how to get it to upgrade to 2003.
I think you are wrong in thinking that your Axim is "still PPC 2002." As already mentioned, a hard reset does not revert the OS back to 2002 if you had previously installed WM03.
To confirm this, go to Start, Settings, System (tab), About. The second line will read Version 3.0.11171 (Build 11178) if you have PPC02 and Version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100) if it is WM03.
The upgrade disk will not allow you to run it again because you are already upgraded.

OK, I'm a stone cold idiot. I won't go into the details of why I thought it wasn't upgraded, but needless to say no matter how smart you think you are, always check to make sure the darn thing is "plugged in".
Thanks for all the help everyone. This site is always so helpful (even when my issues aren't quite so stupid).
