Yes ... windows ce is the platform your Axim runs on. Wm2003 is the same as Ce4.?

Well, kinda-sorta.

WINCE (I always loved that acronym for a MS Product!) is more like the Grandaddy of PPC2002 and WM2003.

Kinda like Windows 3.1 is to ME and XP. And WINCE is like a step-child of Windows Full Size platforms.

So bits of WINCE are still there, they have been assimilated by Unka Bill from BORG into the newer releases (PPC2002 & WM2003).

(You know? All that headgear must be a tad bit uncomfortable when he's on a Conference Call!!)

ahhh. So since mine is version 4.xxxx, software designated as CE version 3 ONLY prolly will not run on my ax.

Thanks. That clears a lot. I had a bunch of freeware programs selected to DL (over dial up) while I slept (I mean a BUNCH)

Some apps are Forward Compatible from WINCE up to PPC2002, possibly to WM2003 as well, but I don't run 2k3 so I can't verify it.

I've got a couple of apps from my WINCE Device days that run fine on my Axim 400 A04.

If they're FREE, let 'em download and try 'em.

and I don't know how to edit my post
[edit] I see now-- up at the top by the post time...[/edit]

But I wanted to say that I too find the WINCE acronym ironic and comical

[edit2] Oh, and which is the "Built in storage" on win file explorer- RAM or ROM?
thanks
[/edit2]

BIS is leftover ROM after the OS is loaded. It will not be wiped even with a Hard Reset and is a good place to put an Executable (.exe) type of Back Up, such as that created by Sprite Backup. HERE's how I have my Sprite Backup configured.

Not good for some programs, as ROM has a limited number of Writes. It's a large number (100,000 or so), but some programs update continuously and that latge number could get eaten up pretty quickly.

Mips and sh3 are pre historic... well kinda
you will be using the arm.
xscale is built on the arm platform.
you probally will not have seen a mips or sh3 unless you come across a hand held pc (clamshell device) or an old newton or something...a few of the first PPC's (palmtops) had mips i think. not sure but you are definitely in the arm class
(im rabling again i know)

I don't think it'll even let you, it should give an error about incompatibility.

True. Trying to install anything other than xscale or arm(strongarm) processor compatible will give you the incompatible error message.
Windows CE(Compact Edition) sure has come a long way, though.

I finally finished DL all the programs (over 30- each with a screenshot of the description) that I want to try, and glad I don't have to worry bout ruining my new baby with an incorrect version.

Thanks so much for your help, guys!
