Need help seeing a file
I installed the PocketWin demo and then tried to remove it. While trying to remove it I found that you can remove the program itself, but not the "FP|8 PocketWin Demo" line from add/remove programs.

This is because PPC2003 doesn't support "|" in filenames. The file that is causing this issue is in /windows and is called "FP|8 PocketWin.unload", however I can not see this file.

I'm thinking if I can see this file, I can either delete it or rename it to something without "|", allowing me to remove it from add/remove programs.

Does anyone have any idea what program I could use to do this? I have resco installed but it doesn't see the file.

Does anyone have a program installed that allows them to see *.unload files in /windows?

I might be wrong but if the OS doesn't allow a pipe charcter as a file name then the file shouldn't have gotten created in the first place. I would guess that there isn't an "unload" file in the Windows folder. I think the entry in the "Add/Remove Programs" listing is probably in the registry.

When I contacted the maker of Pocketwin they said this:

It shouldn't be in the registry, however there are files in the Windows folder that contain uninstall information and are created when the program is installed. The file for PocketWin should have a name "FP|8 PocketWin.unload". I am guessing that you cannot uninstall the software because the file contains the symbol "|" which apparently is not allowed in the new WM2003 operating
system (as well as Windows XP on desktops). But because this filename was programmed into the installation, it got created anyway and now the operating system can't read it when it tries to uninstall PocketWin.

This is totally our fault - we should have checked the install archive for invalid symbols. Sorry for this major inconvenience.

Try using Resco File Explorer. It has a registry editor with it that I use to delete/remove files left over after uninstalls. There is a trial version available.
