Final answer on loading IMG file from SD card

When I searched previous threads regarding this re-load process, many had asked whether the restore would happen from an SD card. There was speculation that it would pick up from either memory media.

My x5 fried after trying to upgrade to 2003 today and would only give me a blue screen. After finding the fantastic info from Tom61 about loading the image using the 4 button start procedure, I could not get it to work. Turns out that loading an .img file during this boot procedure requires that the file be on a CF card. My SD card was not recognized as having the .img file present.

Once I bought a CF card and loaded the image file, I put it in my Axim and it immediately picked up the file and restored my Rom along with the OS.

Thanks for the great info on this site.

Mark.

Useful information, thanks. A question - my Axim came with 2003 already installed. If at some time in the future I fry the ROM, where do I legitimately find a copy of the 2003 .img file? I don't recall seeing it anywhere on the cd that came with the Axim (although I don't have it with me to check right now).

This is actually a very useful procedure if you fry your OS. Mine happened during a standard upgrade procedure and if I hadn't found this fix I would have had to send it to Dell for repairs. My Axim was completely locked and would not boot at all. Check your cd for a .img file, there will probably be 2 of them. If you don't have them, the following download should (I am not affiliated with the sites below, I only found them in my research on my fix):

Here is detailed instructions on the process from Tom61 site:
