totally new to all this I need help
My friend just got a sony clie and gave me his old dell axim x5.
The problem is he cannot find the software that came bundled with it so my question is twofold.
1) what software do I need to sync and to run it (the backup battery died on him from sitting so long so I have no idea what I need to do)
2) where can I find the software? will I need to pay for it or is it out there for free?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

wow, he bought a Clie and gave you his Axim X5? That's crazy. I'd never trade my X5 for a Clie! You got a crazy good deal.

As for your question, you need to install Microsoft ActiveSync. I assume he gave you the sync cable/cradle along with it? Go here to download ActiveSync from Microsoft (it's free) :

You will also probably need the USB drivers for the Axim from Dell's site and a copy of Outlook. Unfortunately, if you do not already have Outlook (it comes as part of M$ Office or as a stand alone program) and your friend cannot find the CD, that's something you'll have to buy.
