Ambicom wifi card (missing feature)
this isnt really a big deal, but i wish it was here.
I hear all these great things about Microsofts Win mob 2003 coming with a "zero configuration" thingie for wifi. and how a box is suppose to pop up with options on what to connect to.
Well i got my ambicom wifi card, and no such thing comes up, is it ambicom driver problem or a setting problem?

TO get it to work with 2003 you need to install the 2002 drivers. At least that's what I had to do. There was no "zero config" for me :(

The 2003 drivers work great. They no longer use thier own utility which I miss, but it did keep the X5 from quickly connecting to my A.P. with the utility and Windows 2003.
Synch your pda and remove the 2002 drivers. Download the new driver which I believe is dated Oct 24,2003. Now try and install the new driver, it will probably ask you if you would like to modify, repair, or remove. Click remove, now reset pda. If driver software did not ask you previous question about removing old driver you can reset device now. Re-synch pda and load new driver, when finished loading reset device again. Now install your wi-fi card and it should detech your system if it doesn't remove card and try installing again (card). This might sound tedious but it works 100% of the time for me.
Good luck

Did you find the 2003 drivers give you any better performance? I'm running the 2002 for the Ambicom GUI.

It seems to me that the 2003 drivers connect faster then the old drivers.
As for not connecting to an AP, do you have your card set to work? If it set to internet you won't be able to go online I believe.

Ok i got it working, it was a different problem
for the WEP key, you dont type the passphrase, you type the actuall 26 digit hex key.
Just for anyone else that has trouble out there
Thank you for the help though, it works great

I just had the same thing using 2003 on PPC 2003, I was connecting fine and enabled WEP in the Ambicon app and the router and reset everything and then Ambicon app showed it connected but no apps could connect and so I disabled it in both places and reset everything and still the same thing. So I soft reset, turned off the axim, removed the card, turned it on, soft reset, turned it off, inserted the card, PPC asked how my new network connects and I said work and everything works. Still no WEP but I guess I'll try that whole routine again.
Does the zero config utility have a place to enter a WEP password or SSID?

yes it does,
just go to start->settings->connections->wireless ethernet....then click on either a previously configured one, or click the new settings button
