Remove Unneeded Files Safely??
Greetings,

I am a recent Palm OS convert and frankly I didn't spend much time worring about storage/RAM space...until now.

I would like to go through and delete everything that is of no use to me, but I have two quesitons: 1. is there anything I should never delete and 2. are there files that will come back after a soft reset making it pointless to delete them anyway.

The types of things I'm looking to get rid of are Switcher, Picture Viewer, etc. Things that I do not use. I have already deleted their shortcuts, but I would like to reclaim the space taken up by their executables as well. Thanks for your help.

You cannot get rid of any applications that were already on your Axim when you got it because they are part of the ROM. However, there are other junk files that can be safely deleted. Take a look at the tutorial called "Taking Care of Your Axim" and look under II b) System Maintenance - Housecleaning for more details. The link is in my signature.

Switcher and Picture Viewer are part of the operating system in ROM. You cannot delete anything in ROM. Deleted files will not come back after a soft reset. The shortcuts in ROM you deleted will come back after a hard reset. They are not gone--just not displayed in the menu. Any files you installed that you no longer need can be deleted.

Thanks for the quick response and great links. I'll grab the appropriate tools and see what I can see.
