No, there is not currently a WM 2003 SE update for the X5, nor has there been an official statement from Dell that there will be.

No update for X5

I think this is their way of forcing an upgrade if you want the latest Windows OS for your PDA. its amazing that they wouldn't offer an upgrade, just on the number fo X5's they sold a year or so back alone.

i'm going to hold off until they work out all the bugs with the WM 2003 SE, then i'll condiser the upgrade.

i keep reading the major draw back of the X30 is that it doesn't have the CF slot. well, in my X5 i do use that slot for my wireless card but i also use it for my gps. what's the trade off, what's the solution for the gps stuff?

I would assume that if you bought it now, it would include the latest WM 2003 ROM image for the X5, unless they only offered 1 version and haven't updated it.

If and when it is released it will be splattered all over this site.

Official word from Dell: "Hell No!" (basically)

Dell has just released a statment saying that they will NOT offer a Windows Mobile 2003 SE to Axim X5 or X3/X3i owners. Not even for a price.

Consult the front page of Aximsite.com for more info and while you're there sign the petition, please.

Where did you see an official statement, other than the one of the front page of this site?

not even for a price? who do they think they are? God? they have to give a reason why. every other manufacturer offers an upgrade, even free upgrades.

WM 2003 for X5

I called Dell some time ago when WM 2003 was first offered for the X5. I asked the sales guy (which I found out knew jack shit) if the Wm 2003 for the X5 would allow the screen to be displayed in landscape. He said it would, so I purchased it and installed it. And guess what, it DOES NOT support landscape. I later found out that you need the SE version to do so. Boy was I pissed. I called Dell to get a refund and they would not do it. So I called my bank and did a chargeback. I did get my money back but now I noticed that the X5 looses connection to Active Sync on my PC every now and then. What A PIECE OF SHIT. I cannot find any patches for WM 2003 on the Dell site. So basically, DELL, I will not buy from you again. I thought that you, Dell, out of all the other companies, would at least be on the consumer’s side and support your products for at least 5 to 7 years. But you have not. You are leaving us behind like an old piece of trash on the ground.
