Contacts # Importing and Exporting

Hello.

I'm trying to figure out a faster way to get all my contacts into my PDA's contact list, and then export them into excel or delimited text files etc.

I didn't get the keyboard for the axim, so how can I add contacts in via my laptop, activesync, excel spreadsheet or text file?

Thanks eh.

I'm not clear on what you're trying to acheive, so if this response doesn't help, apologies in advance!

Your contacts (on your pc) can be synced via AS, so there should be no reason to add them manually. If you are syncing contacts then the PDA and PC should be the same (with any differences only occuring between syncs). So exporting to Excel and Delimited Text would best be done on the PC.

It's a fairly straight forward operation, but as I'm not sure that I'm on the right track, pm me if you need guidance.

Are you using Outlook? If so use the import/export function under the File menu. I don't believe there is any way to export the contacts when they are on the Axim.

if you want a faster way to input on your Axim, get

Microsoft Remote Display Control

It will allow you to use your laptop's keyboard and mouse as your axims! Very good for data entry when you are connected to a PC.

I hope thats what you meant.

Thanks all for your posts. To clarify, I'm not an Outlook fan, so I'm only using the contacts on the PDA side. I've been trying to import/export them using the Outlook, but it's been frustrating so far.

This "remote display control"Remote Display Control

That is flipping amazing... I love it. Now I suppose all I need is to export to Excel. I'll try it from Outlook again and see.

Definitely check out Pocket Controller Pro by SOTI. It does what you are looking for, and a ton more. I've really gotten alot out of this app, and would place it in the top 5 apps for my Axim.

Reese - Is there a trick to the Remote Display? Installed it on my PC and Axim, and when I launch it on my PC, it doesn't connect. When I close the app, I get a 10004 error. Just wondering if I'm leaving something out . . .

Thanks!

ok launch it on your pc first, Then launch it on your Axim and type in your pc's name (possibly IP, but i always use the name) and hit connect.

Thats about all, it has worked on every pc i have tried it on.

On your axim it is called CERdisp or something like that. The program needs to be running on both your pc and your desktop.

Wooch, in case....

reese doesn't see your message. You have to connect from your PPC after you open and get the black screen on your host PC. It should be in programs on the PPC, click it and say connect with the two connected together using Active Sync.

Reese - Thanks man, worked. I didn' realize that there was a link for it on the PPC, must have passed it up. I had to put in my PC's IP address, but it works fine now! Thanks again.
