Someone claims on the Dell forums that he successfully installed the Toshiba e800 WM2003SE upgrade (which is downloadable from Toshiba's web site) on his Axim X3i and it works great.
I would think that the hardware differences wouldn't make that possible. Do you have a link to the discussion?

Whoa. The thread has been deleted on the Dell Community forums just now. It was only up for a few minutes. A guy wrote that he had downloaded the WM2003SE upgrade for the Toshiba e800, changed some code in it and then installed it on his X3i, and it worked great.
I think it might be possible. The hardware is actually not that different.
Probably it's just a signature at the beginning of the file that identifies it as being for the e800. The guy at the Dell forum wrote: "change e800 to Axim X3i or X5 with a code editor".
And if I may chime in... We do not allow threads about warez or hacking here. Thanks and please respect this. Thanks.

I could think of a few reasons why someone would make a claim like this (toshiba-to-axim upgrade) and none of them are good. It's more likely that Dell removed the thread because they didn't want people messing around and wasting their Axims. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people out there who would believe everything they read so Dell did the smart thing and deleted the thread.
The guy still writes on the Dell forums, he has now repeated his claim in two other threads. His nickname is ptmark. I don't see a reason why someone would make such a claim if it's not true.
