Losing Appointment Notes

I posted this problem a while back and have not recieved any replies as of yet.

My problem has since gotten worse.

If I make an appointment on my Dell X30 and add some notes to it the notes get lost after I sync.

Originally it seemed to only be if there where several lines of notes, but now it will do it with any notes at all.

On the PPC I get the message [Message Truncated] and in Outlook 2003 (11.6359.6360) the note is blank.

If notes are made in Outlook the sync fine and are left as they should be.

I have Active Sync set to Sync 0 Weeks of Past appointments.

If I watch it sync you can see it goes through and checks for changes, finds the appointment on the PDA Syncs it, then goes back and re syncs it, which I believe is when it erases the notes.

I show that I have 22 meg free storage memory on the PDA and 13 meg free on the program side.

I tried a hard reset and new install of outlook and active sync version 3.7.1. (4034). With nothing installed on the PDA it still does it.

My business partner is running the same set up and also having the exact same problem.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is happening and how to fix?? Microsoft??

Under activesync Options tab, click on rules. It sounds like you have it set up to replace the items on your ax with the items on your PC.

Trying leaving them unresolved and see if this helps.

... I got it. The current limit on notes entries in Calendar
and Contacts is 5k.

I know this because it's right in the registry. The key below was in the
2003 models, but the OS didn't pay attention to this key. In Windows Mobile
5.0, there have been development changes...
This is no guarantee and I bear no responsibility because a registry hack is
involved (backup your registy and device), however this works on my UTStarcom
6700...
Get yourself a registry editor... I use Resco Explorer 2005 (include reg
editor)
And apply this hack...

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync]
"BodyTruncation"=dword:00005000

this will get you 20 kB in your notes section instead of 5 kB. That was
enough for me, I have not yet experimented with higher limits. Maybe someone
else can (but backup your device). Maybe I'll get time.

So, I would upload a reg file but I don't think I can here.

So, use the above modification, that is, go to the above registry key and
change the
BodyTruncation key to "Dec" = "20480" or "Hex" = 5000, as you see above. The
former value is "5120" (Dec), which is 5120 bytes. The new value will be
20480 bytes.
Save the value. Reset your device.
The above info seemed to sort out my issues with my Outlook notes being truncated, and I believe it also works with Contact notes.
It worked with my X51v with WM5, so it might be worth seeing if similiar registry keys exist for WM2003 or WM2003SE.

I also noticed this problem soon after I first got my Axim X50v last year and have no idea why it happens but what I did discover a workaround.

If you backup for PIM file and then restore it all the notes come back. So you don't actually lose the data it just disappears for some reason.

I'm no techy and it's a pain to have to keep backing up and restoring the PIM files but if you don't want to mess around changing registries or are afraid to do that this is another option.

Regards

I found notes in individual appointments that are part of a recurring series to be the most problematic.
So I have pretty much stopped using recurring appointments where I might want to add notes.

This and the registry fix have meant I've had no isues for the last week or more.

I found my notes were disappearing from my X50v, a quick soft reset and the notes would reappear!

giffer2 - you are awesome! I've been struggling with this (losing notes within appointments) for a while now, and the soft reset made them reappear.

Cheers :approve:

Did anyone ever resolve this? It's started happening to me and I was searching through the archives to see if anyone had come across it before but I can't find any resolutions :-(
