Changing the locations and paths of "\My Documents" and default install dirs
Hi,
In attempt to clear as much as possible RAM i was wondering if there is a way to relocate the default location of "My Documents" folder from the '\' to some other location (\Memory Card\My Documents)
And another question goes about Program installation directories,
when I am installing a program through Activesync, I can only control the storage media it will be installed on, but not the path. Does anyone knows if its possible to set a specific path for the installation programs?
Thanks

I did the same thing as MMMMMike. Just create a My Documents and a Programs folder on your storage card. Don't forget to put an ignore_my_documents file in your My Documents folder. See attached pictures.

I don't know what program creates it. I was having problem with some of my programs accessing the information in My Documents on the Sd card....so I did some research and found out I had to have this file in the My Documents folder. If I remember correctly it was already on the SD card and I just had to cut and paste it to the My Documents folder. I think if you do a search of Aximsite you will find more specific answers. In any case I will attach the file so you can download it.
Peace,
Rob Bond

Has anyone ever tried this on standard (non SE) 2003? Sounds like an ultimate answer to a lot of our space problems.

I have a "My Documents" folder on all my memory cards and main memory.
I keep things I want to keep long term on the memory cards, and small and short term things in the one in main memory.
I have no ignore files, but I did delete a similar file in the root of the memory cards (I can't remember what the file was called).
Adding the My Documents folders to memory cards reduces where apps search for certain things. I am not sure what apps and what the search criteria is; but I read a thread a long time ago that suggest this.

One application you may find helpful if you dont have it already is the freeware "Cabinstl" program. It allows you to install cab files anywhere you want.. including in particular directories. Wont help with activesynch though.
I associated the program with cab files (its a program option) and now just double click on the cab, browse to where I want it to go.. and I am done.
Regards,
Artuk

You are quite welcome. It is unbelievable how much stuff we put on our PPC's. I would never be able to fit all I have on my SD card....245mb of files, just in My Documents folder onto the RAM and ROM put together on the Axim.
Peace,
Rob Bond
