Cool How to remove bad installs, etc.

I'm a Geek out of my element. I feel pretty savy in XP, 2000 and the desktop world, but I'm needing handheld-help with my Axim.

I've installed the Belkin BT keyboard, but got errors on "...designed for a previous version". I couldn't get it to function in any way, so I removed the program. Should be no problem? I reinstalled the program and tried again. No luck. I'm probably missing something, but ...two instances of the program icon are left on my start menu. Yikes! How do I go about removing them? If I knew the file name, I might be able to remove them with file explorer, but alas...I do not know the name. I'm sure this isn't the first time an aritifact from an uninstalled program is left behind. I didn't see a thread that addressed this.

Ok, then...I installed the HP mobile printing program. No problem. Looked good. I configured a network printer (an HP 4550N color LJ) and when I went to print, the Axim started flashing uncontrollably. Bummer again. ...I managed to get control again and removed the HP mobile print program... Except the start menu icon was left over. ...and, I couldn't remove all the files from the program. Darn. The files do not seem to be running (not listed), but by golly, hpmpctmn.exe cannot be removed because it's in use.

I'm not having much luck at cleanup it seems. If anyone has suggestions on removing these program artifacts and/or telling me what I'm probably doing wrong, I'm listening. (:

Can anyone recommend a great book on the technical parts of windows mobile? I want to become productive, but I'm getting bogged down in what should be the basics.

Thanks for your suggestions...
Newbie in distress... YoBC

Take a look at some of the tutorials on the site. There are lots of good ones. I have four linked in my signature.

To remove the dead links, open up File Explorer and go to Windows directory. Go to Start menu and delete the links to those programs by tapping and holding down the item then selecting Delete in the drop down menu.

Talking to myself...and you Gigi

 Almost before I could say "Axim" you answered --and I found the tutorial, written by you... "Installing, Running and Uninstalling Software" Excellent! Nice job Gigi. I don't know how I missed it.

I've already removed the Belkin BT & HP printing shortcuts. The "hpmpctmn.exe" program is still hangin' on, but I'll try the ActiveSync scenario from the PC. I'll be checking out the PHM registry editor... The link seems to be dead, but I'll find it.

I'm starting to feel more comfortable now. Registry...shortcuts...delete. I'm almost at home.

Thanks,
Bruce :approve:

well if its a really annoying app, a lot of times a reinstall of the annoying app then a uninstall right after that should kill it.

Also, you can always try a hard reset to clear everything if you are willing to start over. Just make sure you have backed up all important files first and synced.

I uninstalled HP Mobile Printing but 2 .DLL files are still there, did a soft reset as well. Can I just delete them (tap and click delete)?

Yes, you can, but make sure you have done a backup first just in case these two files are needed.
