Question Error Message says "Backup storage file locked"

I've accidentally done something to stop my axim from backing up properly and I keep getting an error message
titled: Backup: Storage File Locked
"Cannot access storage file or backup storage file. These files have been locked by another process. Please unlock the file(s) or choos another backup path and filename."
(I don't even know where the default backup location is?)

I'm also having a problem where I cannot open my Windows Media Player (9) and I keep clearing an extra copy out of temp and it keeps coming back. (I accidentally deleted all my songs and had to reinstall them all back to my CF card, that's when this started happening.

I don't know if there is any relation between the two problems, but they happened around the same timeframe.

Any thoughts?

PS: I just purchase MemMaid and hope I didn't remove something accidentally in a cleaning process. Do you think I should do a reinstall of anything?

Wait a minute, I stand corrected. The Windows Media Player problem happened first. Then I purchased MemMaid thinking it would clean out the extra media player thing that kept coming back into my temp file...
So the back up problem DOES seem isolated. Sorry for the confusion. If someone can tell me where the MS Activsync backup default location file should be, that could be a starting point.

Additionally, if anyone has any thoughts on the media player issue, I'd love to get advice too.

Thanks again!

Are you using a SD or CF card? If SD, did you accidentally physically lock your SD card? Slide the little latch on the side.

The location of your backup file is specified in Microsoft ActiveSync > Tools > Backup/Restore.

Thanks Jonathan, I tried to save it again in the same location and it let me "replace" the back up file, but I'm still getting the same error message. Can I change the backup location to my SD or CF disk and if so, how?

UPDATE: I changed the name and now it worked. I was able to back up! I'd still like to change the location though.

I haven't used it before, but to back up to an SD card, on your Pocket PC go Start > Programs > Data Backup.

Exclamation Solutions

I've fixed both problems now. Turned out to be a really simple solution. In both instances the fix was changing the name of the folder or file. :approve:

For my back up problem, all I had to do is retitle the 'backup' file to 'ppc backup'. (Activesync allowed me to title it whatever I wanted and the new file name didn't have any locking issues).

And I had all my songs under the folder called 'my documents' on the cf card. I found a tutorial here on Aximsite re storing mp3s and noticed the folder is titled 'Music'. Once I renamed the folder on my cf card, I can now open my media player!!!
